Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

I have no doubt Bennett would have had some pulling power, however it wouldn't have made much difference.

Players want to win premierships, they want to play rep footy, they want trophies to put in a cabinet, they want a successful career. What's the chances of that happening at the Knights?

As I said, they are like the Raiders. No one really wants anything to do with them, especially with the state the club is in.
But Newcastle had the most rep players of any team in 2013.....

Maybe now they want nothing to do with the club but back when WB started recruiting after 2011 I bet the sentiment was different.

What are you talking about?

Your basing your theories on what Newcastle is now and the state of affairs Bennett has left them in.

When WB took over, the club was flush....

and NTLE already had their fare share of rep players, so yeah......you can play rep footy as a NTLE player.

when he took over the Knights, WB had no trouble getting the squad he wanted.....and in his first year, they were being lauded as definite premiership threats.

As a Knights fan you'd be bitterly disappointed with Bennett's tenure at the club.

BEN Barba has appealed for master coach Wayne Bennett to keep him at the Broncos.
At a time when speculation over Barba’s future at Red Hill is at fever pitch, the big-name recruit wants stability more than ever.Barba is preparing to celebrate the birth of his third child, with heavily-pregnant partner Ainslie Currie due in November, adding to their two daughters Bronte and Bodhi.

Ben Barba has appealed for Wayne Bennett to keep him at the Broncos.

Family was the central reason for Barba's decision to quit the Bulldogs last year, and it is another critical factor in his desire to be part of the Bennett era next season.Speculation that Origin tryscoring star Darius Boyd would follow Bennett to Red Hill has fuelled suggestions Barba or Josh Hoffman could be offloaded. With another baby on the way, Barba hopes Bennett will honour his existing deal, which expires at the end of 2016.“I’d definitely like to play under Wayne,’’ Barba said. “I’m not thinking too much about it until the off-season, but it would be good to learn from someone like Wayne. He is one of the greatest coaches and he can help my game.’’
While Barba’s on-field form has been patchy, off the field he has found contentment in Brisbane. He and Currie have settled into a large home on Brisbane’s northside and Barba is so comfortable at Red Hill he wants to finish his career at the Broncos.“Most definitely I want to stay,’’ he said.“When I signed up here I signed to stay here and hopefully finish my career in Queensland. What pans out in the off-season I guess I can’t control, so my focus at the moment is this season, playing good football and getting us into the top eight.’’

Cooper Cronk of the Storm dives to score a try while tackled by Ben Barba.

Barba said he was gradually finding his feet at five-eighth as he prepares to face his former club Canterbury this Friday night at Suncorp Stadium. He said he had well and truly severed his emotional ties with the club with whom he won the Dally M Medal back in 2012.“I’m happy here now, the Dogs are in the past,’’ he said.

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

I can't believe it's even a story, the guys got a contract until the end of 2016 after all. That's more than enough time to showcase his skills and attitude for WB to consider. This all seems to be based on some wild speculation about Boyd and his future. Like I said earlier, Boyd may have already been told by Bennett that he's got to find his own way in life and I reckon it's very unlikely Boyd will come back to the Broncos, at least in the short term. Boyds on huge money and would have to play for around half of what he's currently on if he came back. We should just wait and see what happens.

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

I also hope we don't lose him, I wouldn't be too upset at losing Hoffman, because I think he's reached his pinnacle at the Broncos, Barba hasn't even come close.

Did they? Current rep players did they? Explain that to me, because they didn't seem too.

*im not defending Bennett, I'm just sick of the whole "he played origin about 20 years ago, so the have a team full of rep players"

Kinda sounds like "he won heaps of premierships a decade or 2 ago so hes a great coach".. doesnt it

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

I'd keep him for next year, when he's still supposedly cheap. If he doesn't improve dramatically, get rid of him.

Hmmm 2010 is a decade ago hey...

2010, 2011, 2011 and a half, 2011 and 3/4, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2012 and a bit, 20-diggity-2, 2014. Yep, 10 years.

Maybe it is true what they say about the QLD education system

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

Food for thought.. most Successful Coach in the last decade.

Premiership Coaches.
John Lang 1 Premiership
Steve Folkes 1
Tim Sheens 1
Wayne Bennett 1
Craig Bellamy 1 ( illegal team )
Des Hasler 1
Craig Bellamy 1 ( illegal team )
Wayne Bennett 1
Des Hasler 1
Craig Bellamy 1
Trant Robinson 1

So, Bellamy had three premierships although two were gained illegitimately .... So one legal premiership
therefore the next best in the last decade were Des Hasler and Wayne Bennett each with two premierships.

That makes both those coaches the most successful and most current coaches in the NRL. Given that WB achieved that feat with two different teams would have to sway the vote as The Last Decades Best Coach... Although I wish that we had Craig Bellamy here in Brisbane !!!!

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

is there actually any truth to barba's contract being under question, or is pure media speculation?

to me he is an extremely talented footballer and the right coach will unleash that talent again. id really like to see him play under bennett.

No truth so far. Apparently he isn't the type of player Bennett likes. I don't get that though. Is he too small for Bennett (Alfie, Walters, Lockyer). Not good enough defensively (Lockyer, Gagai, Hodges). Too many outside problems (Boyd, Mason, Seymour). It's all just attempts at filling pages on their newspaper or websites at the moment.

That's a simplistic metric to look at the most successful coach. Change it to most finals wins, most regular season wins, best for and against etc and i'm sure results would be very different.

Regardless of Bennett's past, i'm more concerned with who is going to be amongst the best coach in the next decade...

Don't forget to not count all of those wins in those years Bellamy and the Storm were cheating though.
