Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

No truth so far. Apparently he isn't the type of player Bennett likes. I don't get that though. Is he too small for Bennett (Alfie, Walters, Lockyer). Not good enough defensively (Lockyer, Gagai, Hodges). Too many outside problems (Boyd, Mason, Seymour). It's all just attempts at filling pages on their newspaper or websites at the moment.

To be fair, there may be truth to it, we don't know as we are not in Bennetts inner circle ... thats not to say that the media know either, they're likely just guessing (working on the assumption Boyd will follow Bennett)

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

That's a simplistic metric to look at the most successful coach. Change it to most finals wins, most regular season wins, best for and against etc and i'm sure results would be very different.

Regardless of Bennett's past, i'm more concerned with who is going to be amongst the best coach in the next decade...

It may be simplistic, but it seems to be a popular one

Even on this forum there is no shortage of people saying that unless WB brings a premiership he will have failed

"Change it to most finals wins"

I can hear it now - we don't care how many finals we win, we only care how many grand finals we win

And as for most regular season wins, best for and against.....nobody really cares

I'd love to see the stats all the same if someone was willing to do the research and compile them.

I think it'd make for interesting reading.

Plenty of fans care about how their teams perform during the regular season as well as being competitive in every match they participate in.

Just ask Tigers fans who had one good year under Tim Sheens, who according to the criteria above was equally as good as Bellamy over the past 10 years.

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

Mid week rant / steam blow off.

Milford, Boyd, Hodges, Copley, Gagai, Barba, Hunt, Hannant, Macca, that big prop we signed, that tall backrower we need to sign, mcguire, parker :: oates, that other big prop we signed, maybe Gillett, + that super sub we need to sign. Coach WB, assistant Kevvie, locky, alfie, winning culture types etc :: CEO - that new one we need to sign.

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

Food for thought.. most Successful Coach in the last decade.

Premiership Coaches.
John Lang 1 Premiership
Steve Folkes 1
Tim Sheens 1
Wayne Bennett 1
Craig Bellamy 1 ( illegal team )
Des Hasler 1
Craig Bellamy 1 ( illegal team )
Wayne Bennett 1
Des Hasler 1
Craig Bellamy 1
Trant Robinson 1

So, Bellamy had three premierships although two were gained illegitimately .... So one legal premiership
therefore the next best in the last decade were Des Hasler and Wayne Bennett each with two premierships.

That makes both those coaches the most successful and most current coaches in the NRL. Given that WB achieved that feat with two different teams would have to sway the vote as The Last Decades Best Coach... Although I wish that we had Craig Bellamy here in Brisbane !!!!

Except Hasler was normally the losing coach in the decider against those illegal Bellamy teams. Honestly think anyone is kidding them self if they don't think Des is the best. When was the last time he even missed finals?

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

I care about how many wins we get during the season, and how many wins we get in the finals series. The NRL to me isn't all about the result, it's how you got to the result. I don't like winning by brain dead boring football. I don't like winning with the ref handing it to us or even blatantly giving us a leg up. State of origin is a different matter, I'll take a win where the ref sends the whole other team off 2 seconds into the game lol.

regular season is about enjoying it, even if we lose. its entertainment, and if im not entertained then whats the point?

If you want entertainment go watch a movie, sport is about winning

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

It will be very interesting how next season plays out. If the forwards are winning Milford will put on a show most weeks. I am more worried about Bennett bringing back Boyd than I am about his game plan.

Of course it is, but as a paying member or spectator, it's definitely also about entertainment.

I'm not going to say I prefer to lose playing spectacular footy, than win playing crap footy, but I certainly prefer to win by scoring more tries than the opposition, than by ensuring the opposition scores less than me, if you catch my drift.

I do enjoy a good defensive battle though, such as those epic finals games against WB's Dragons we won.

FTR, I'm not too worried about the kind of footy we'll play under Wayne.
I am more worried about his selections than anything else...

I guess.....I know I'd prefer winning ugly, than losing pretty. In fact for some reason it'd be kinda fun in a twisted way to win ugly all year and be as boring as bat shit, but take home the GF

Look at the scoreboard *****

Get fucked.

Interesting reading regarding Bennett and Hasler. Both been pretty consistent. I think Bennett still has what it takes despite his indifferent results at the Knights.

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

Once again Ikin said on NRL 360 tonight that Barba will be the odd man out at the Broncos next year, his tip is that he'll be starting off the bench as a utility, similar to his role at the Bulldogs when he first started, with Milford, Boyd, Hunt, McCullough making up the spine.

You'd think he'd have some sort of insight on what Wayne plans to do, given their relationship.

Could be the case however I'd imagine IF WB had confided in ikin some plans and then ikin goes on tv and spells it out to the world WB would blow up. This in mind I think ikin is just speculating

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

If Boyd is in the spine, then it must be at fullback ... Bennett is a fool if he tries to play him at 5/8.

I really hope he watched Griffins dismal failure of playing Hoffman at 5/8, because the exact same thing will happen if he tries to play Boyd there.

but i would be much happier if Bennett cut the cord and makes Boyd play elsewhere

I do agree that Boyd should not be at 5/8, but if he was, he would be 1000 times better then Hoffman.
