I thought you were calling Bellamy 'one of the greats' if you like, which is quite different from 'a great coach'

So if by calling him 'great' you are putting him in the same category as the coaching greats of our code like Bennett, Gibson, Gould then I remain opposed to your view

I don't put Bellamy in that category as his record is inferior - he may well be in that category by the time he retires though

But if by calling him great all you are saying is that he is a really good coach, then I tend to agree

he MAY be a brilliant coach, but he is yet to prove it

Assuming you are trying to prove i have contradicted myself, i must inform you that great and brilliant are different

Great is very good

Brilliant is illustrious, distinguished, magnificent

So for me to say he is a great coach but yet to prove himself brilliant makes perfect sense

I have already said that it is likely our disagreement is related to interpretation of great. Ie is he great or one of the greats? I consider these different and offered the possibility that we have simply miscommunicated

But instead of being open to that possibility and finding a middle ground of agreement with me, you go trawling through previous posts to find a way to try and prove I have contradicted myself

I find that really difficult to deal with as it seems you are being deliberately antagonistic rather than trying to shake hands

In my previous post I apologized to you if I had misunderstood or taken you the wrong way. Instead of thanking me for that, you look around for a stick to poke me with

Haha, yeah, John don't take it too seriously mate. You have to realise if you have a well argued opposing point of view to Ap he quickly gets to defcon 5,

particularly if WB is the subject. This topic has been argued easily more than anything else over the last 7 years since I've been reading and posting here.

great and brilliant are just different words for the same thing. great. brilliant. excellent. fantastic. the fact that youre now trying to argue the difference is laughable. you say hes yet to prove himself, but you agree that hes a great coach.....how can he be a great coach if hes yet to prove himself?

if there was a miscommunication it was on your part, not mine. i never said that bellamys record was as good as Bennetts. 7 premierships vs 3 isnt exactly something i would argue works in favour of the person with 3. i never said bennett wasnt one of the best coaches of all time. i never said bellamy was the best coach of all time. i simply said that now, and over the last ~10 years, bellamy has been the better coach. if you want to take that as me saying that bellamy has the better coaching record, or that bennetts always been a terrible coach then thats your problem, not mine. everything i wrote was in plain english, you interpreted it completely wrong because of your .....drumroll......bhq fav.......agenda.

why would i want to "shake hands" when all youve been doing is trying to argue with me about things that i didnt say? you cant then turn around and go 'oh my bad, i was arguing something different'. its being extremely antagonistic when you put words in my mouth and then argue against them, when i didnt say anything remotely like those words.

I don't know AP, I looked at NRL.com history and in the last 7 years I can see Bennett has won two premierships and Bellamy has won one premiership.

IMO Armstrong still did win them. He cheated, but he won. I don't believe in stripping things like premierships/championships from the record books, but that's another topic.

I look at nrl.com and out of the last 1 year I can see Bellamy won 1 premiership and Bennett won none. He missed the finals too. Guess that proves Bellamy is the better coach ATM.

so honest question to those who feel bellamy hasnt proven himself - what will your opinion be if melbourne go back to back this year? as you all agree, it is MUCH harder to go back to back these days than it ever was before, thats why noones done it for 15 years, so if melbourne do it will you just write it off as "he couldnt do it without the big 3" or will you give him some credit?
