Trial #2 - Broncos vs. Cowboys

Billy Walters can play hooker, and Segy’s a free agent. Not that Smith is likely to get injured.
Cant see Seggy coming back we'd only be offering minimum wage and there are a few teams in Sydney that could do with a back up hooker (Sharks (now Mcinness is off the cards), Dogs, Eagles, Knights (if Brayley gets injured), etc.)

Not many teams carry a specialist back up hooker or 3rd string hooker, so any major injury in the hooking position could potentially look at Seggy

Usually the outcome of trials doesn't mean too much to me, but we really need to, if not win it, perform very strongly. Almost consider it a regular season game in terms of effort and execution. I'm sure everyone wants to put their best on display.

Broncos by 50.

Well it wasn't a good omen last year when we got overrun by a reserve grade titans side, hoping this trial will provide a bit more optimism.

At least this year Copley can't get sconned by a ball when warming up (happened last year behind the deadball line)

In a real nightmare scenario (The Seibold special) we could have a hooker and a back on the bench with many of our forwards able to play big minutes.
I'm forever haunted by the tactical winger substitution Seibold made against Parramatta last year. Said he thought a fresh winger could exploit a tiring Sivo. I think the week prior we did a tactical fullback interchange.

It will be a top 4 v top 8 clash :) Should be a good one!

What would this mean for the side if they get belted?

Obviously, we all hope that won't happen but what if?

On the other hand, if they belt the Cows, that would be just what the doctor ordered.

I won’t be paying too much attention to the result either way TBH. A win would be good for confidence, but I just want to see communication and a team-first approach.

Providing we are positioned in the top 8 come round 16, that’s when I want to see us starting to hit our straps.

I think Kev is going to get a bit of slack this year if things don't dramatically improve, he's one of the old boys, has been a pundit on fox etc for a while so they're unlikely to put the knife in too deep early on, coming off a wooden spoon season with no real recruitment... I think as far as he goes, as long as we don't run dead last and win more than we did last year, he'll be fine.

Us fans on the other hand though... I'll still watch but **** I don't think I could stomach another season like last.

I actually think the opposite. I think he has to hit the ground running, starting with this trial. This experiment - the sentimental favourite absolutely no one rates as a coach - has cost the Broncos dearly. It’s not enough to get the players cracking jokes and talking to each other in the preseason, Walters has to prove he’s the next SuperCoach, or he not only loses his job but hinders the club’s ability to attract signings.

And while he mightn’t need to win the premiership, we have to look like a team coached by a bloke who will win a premiership if he just gets a couple of the right cattle. That’s what this year is about. It’s a long way from a lost cause; it’s setting the table.

So is Walsh a genuine chance of starting fullback in round 1? If Isaako shits the bed tomorrow does he get the nod?

I doubt it, would be pretty stupid to punt him after 1 trial game . Especially after he's been training there all pre season, give him a few games at least and then I'd say khunt or maybe even Kevin locke get called in.
Walsh would be later in the year if he's going good in cup.

Walsh looks way too small for NRL at this stage. Last week he was easily smashed or picked up multiple times. To his credit, mentally he handled it fine and didn't shy away from the tough stuff. But the NRL is a different level and teams like storm and roosters will target him.

Let him physically and mentally develop this year in Q cup. Short of an injury crisis, I can't see him debuting in 2021. I'm tipping Isaako will be a good enough stop gap, with Niu and possibly Arthars or Herbie as backups in case of injury.

I really like what I see from Walsh, but I think we would be better off not rushing him in until he is physically ready and has a full season of footy against men under his belt.
