Like that game where he had a full meltdown and got binned for being a moron and swearing at the ref?

Or when his form went off a cliff, becoming captain dick fingers under the highball?

His attitude on the field was not like that of a senior player in the squad.
Form and attitude are two totally different things. Nobody is saying his form didnt dip. All you have done really is name one out of character incident to try to prove a point. And its a bit of an exaggeration to say he had a full meltdown. He gave the ref a mouthful after he felt he got a high shot. There are plenty of things to be critical of Oates about, his attitude on the field isnt one of them.

If thats your yardstick, you cant be happy with the likes of Flegler and Gamble in the team who have shocking discipline on field, or Haas or Staggs who have shown themselves on multiple occasions to have extremely poor behaviour off the field.

1. Cobbo
6. Mam
7. Reynolds
9. Paix/Walters

14. Walters/Paix

Depending on how Cobbo initially performs at the back, you have to think that is just about the best spine we've fielded in something like 4 years. A good mix of experience and youth that need to have some of that experience rubbed off on them.

I think any sports psychologist will immediately tell you the two are intrinsically linked, even more so at the highest echelons of sport. Attitude is everything, it leads to form.

His dummy spit was not simply a comment to the ref, it was 10 minutes of the game until the ref finally had enough after warning him several times.

He was also one of the "smiling/laughing" broncos squad copping shit for having a great old time after a game of getting belted.

As for Flegler or Gamble going off silly - no, I don't like it at all. Gamble's niggle is one thing, that's fine, but when it crosses over into flying off the handle, it's rot we need to cut out. Flegler is close to my most hated bronco, doubt I've said many positive things about him on here ever.

Haas and Staggs got their punishment and rightly so - bringing our brand into disrepute.

They arent intrinsically linked. Just because they can be doesnt mean its the gold standard. Plenty of players just decline and their form goes. Happened with Alex Glenn for example and he's probably been one of the most professional players we have had on and off the field in a long time.

If Oates attitude was that bad you would be rattling off game after game after game where he didnt put in, and it just hasnt happened. You can do it for the standard of his performances, he's been ordinary for a quite a while now, not his effort. There are plenty of sportsmen in every single sport who no matter what they do just cant regain their form. Corey could well be one of them. Go and talk to anyone involved in the game about it, if a player isnt trying in a team setting, they are quickly found out and dont stay around for too long. Their team mates wont back a player with no effort.

And for the record, i can see why people dont want him in the team based on form ( even though i thought he was decent last year ). He hasnt been at his best for a while. I'm just not buying his attitude is a problem.

I get your point about the players laughing after games ( i wouldnt say there were having a great old time though ) and its not a good look for a losing side, but its just what the players do these days. Once the game is over, they talk to their mates from opposition sides. And again, it was hardly a full blown meltdown they way you said it. He was complaining about what he felt were illegal shots.

I still stand by them being intrinsically linked, it's not the only factor in form though, as you point out age and injury take their toll too. But without the right attitude, you'll never peak no matter how good they are physically. For all athletes in any major sport - attitude is often the defining feature as it affects everything from how they train, to how they prepare and how they focus on the event itself. Someone with awesome physical talent and zero attitude is never going to make it to an elite level.

Dave Taylor is probably a perfect example of this. If that guy ever got 3-4 seasons of great attitude, he would have been super fit and unstoppable. He was in my mind, the biggest waste of talent I've seen in the last 20-30 years - all because he didn't want to get his weight down and fix his attitude.

Re: Corey's games - we'll, a tad hard to do as he only played one season in the last two, some due to injury, some due to be flat out dropped by the coach - perhaps an indication I'm not the only one who views him as not putting in all the time?

Re: Not putting in and being found out - true, but the NRL also has a salary cap and limits on numbers of players and the last two years we were at times close to a second string team with half of our squad injured. Sometimes he was getting a run for lack of any real option - when the alternative is blooding yet another zero experience youngster they were gambling on him to come good.

Its down to form though, not his effort. I think you would have a hard time finding anyone thats worked with him who thinks Corey doesnt do his best. He just lost his form, confidence then those staph infections took more out of him than people know on top of some other things. He would have been banished to ISC for good or even shipped out like we did with Vidot who the other players had very little trust in after a pre season camp. When Corey got dropped to ISC, he got his head down and worked hard to get his place back.

I dont think you can really compare Dave to Oatesy though. The Coaltrain just wanted to play footy and not do anything else. Oatesy trains well and works hard. He's just had a hard time with some things out of his control that he probably didnt deal with as well as he could have.

Reynolds in doubt for round one?

Wouldn’t be good if the over training rumours are true and a couple players have hamstring issues from it. Has been a very humid couple of weeks.

IF (I know I know) hypothetically speaking Reynolds is in doubt for round 1, which I doubt is the case and think it is mind games as well but we are being hypothetical, the Broncs know how to sign a banged up high priced recruit don't they!

Where is the team announcement?
I think we already know who's in the team, just not formally. Who's in question?

If Adam is out of the first round, this trial will be doubly important. Looks like Capewell would be captain, which is interesting.
