This is a momentous day in the history of the Broncos, our messiah is coming back home, where he belongs. IMO, he should never of left but that's an entirely different argument.
Look, how anyone can be unhappy at Wayne coming back to us is beyond me. The man made us. He built our culture which we have happened to lose since he departed, no one can deny that. We just don't have that aura anymore where other teams fear us, and we certainly don't seem to entice the top players to come and play for us. This all used to happen under Bennett's watch, will that all magically happen again? I have faith it will. Truth is, Griffin is a good coach, he is definitely better than most in the NRL, but the fact is we are under performing. We have a great squad, yes we can tweak it here & there but we should definitely be firmly entrenched in the top 4, this is not the case. The past 3 seasons have been below ordinary. This is a results driven business, and Griffin hasn't gotten us to where we need to be, it's that simple. I feel for him, I like the guy, he always has his emotions in check, his temperament is cool, calm and level headed and you can see that the players like him, but can he get the best out of this squad? No he can't. He hasn't been able to for the past 3 seasons. How many more years of mediocrity would we like to see until we God forbid end up like Cronulla?
Bringing Bennett back is the absolute perfect move. Alot of people say Wayne is past his use by date, he's lost the feel for the game etc. All this rubbish. Maybe that's true, maybe it isn't, but what he does bring is an aura with him, he brings experience, he brings cohesion and what he is best at doing is getting the best out of each and every player. I have no doubt about that. He will get this squad where we should be and that is firmly in the top 4, year in, year out, being premiership contenders every season. Tactically, the players know the set plays and know what they need to do to score tries, they know what they need to do to stop tries, but they aren't mentally up to do that like the other top 4 teams. Bennett will instil a supreme confidence in them to believe in themselves completely. He will bring alot of positives, and if people can't see that they must be blind, or crazy.
It's sad that we hooked 'Hook' but he has been given 4 seasons to get us where we need to go, and has failed. Bennett has to be held accountable too though, if within his 3 seasons we have under performed, he must go too. But Bennett coming back is all about setting us up within 3-5 years to be the club we once were - the powerhouse we once were. I for one am extremely happy about him coming home and cannot bloody wait!
Thanks for all your efforts Hook, and let's celebrate this day!
WELCOME HOME WB!
