We need a goal kicker

So Parker is kicking at around 50% for the season in 3 winning games. Seeing as the NRL is so close over a long season, we need a better strike rate than that. I would like to see Lockyer kicking again for his own record's sake but he allegedly doesn't like doing it. Wallace kicks goals too. I can't see DeVere cracking this backline at this stage.

Who else is there? Do I remember Thaiday kicking goals or am I on crack?

Dave Taylor can land them apparently.

There's also Gorrell.

I think Wallace would be worth a shot if Parker doesn't improve soon.

don't forget Sammy Thaiday... he has kicked a goal for us in the past

Woah, Me and nashy tried to bring this up and we had half the forum breathing down our neck...
IIRC he's kicked at 47% this season, and most of the ones he's landed are basically from the front.

I sitll think he is one of the worst regular goal kickers in the NRL and in the closer games (semi final or w/e) his kicking could easily cost us, I don't know if we have a solution however, but surely we can try others, they couldn't do any worse than 47%

Oh and before people try to go off at me, I'm only talking about his goal kicking, I think he is a great player, however goal kicker... he should let someone else have the duties.

Welcome to BroncosHQ. Where backflips happen time and time again. Look at all the youngsters doing the rounds. Half this forum didn't want them there because they didn't have experiance. Seems that now they have 3 games under their belt, they are great, the best, the awesome.

Parker is useless. Soon, when teams catch onto our new game, the games will be tighter, and the kicker is going to play a big role in a loss or a win for the team.

Parker has to go.

Didn't realise it was mandatory to express ones feeling of self-righteousness in their posts.. If I was next to you two, I would gladly pat you on the back.

On topic, Parker was ok last year- I personally don't see him as a choker of any sort when it comes to kicking- he's kicked some pretty important kicks in his time. See if he gets up on the improve in the early rounds, if not I think perhaps it would be smart to try other kickers.

I am more concerned about Parker's form as a footballer and that is dramatically better than it was last year so I couldn't care how he kicks. If it continues to be bad for maybe another 3 weeks I would give Wallace the chance to take on the role, I never liked the idea of Parker as the fulltime kicker as he never seemed to stay effective for the whole 80 minutes.

I was actually thikning about starting a similar topic myself after the game against the warriors. Parker has been terrible at kicking this season.

The broncos have rarely had quality goal kickers in their time though. I suppose they could get away with it in the 90s (especially early) cause their attack was so potent. I don't think we will have that luxury this year. I wouldn't be surprised if we lose a few close games on the boot of parker.

I don't recall arguing with either of you about these topics. Thank you for contributing to my thread.

I'd like to see Wallace given a go. Parker is not quite good enough. We're still 3 from 3 but sooner or later a conversion or penalty is really going to count and I don't feel confident with Parker kicking

I personally don't have a problem with Parker, but from what i've seen at different times, I reckon Izzy is our best goal kicker. He hits the ball as sweet as anybody

Parker will find his radar soon enough. But it doesn't hurt to have a good backup that's trained up and on fire.

Wallace, Gorrell, Thaiday would be my preferences. Izzy? Really?

lol rock, I wasn't basing it on one round, I have always been of the opinion that parker should NOT goal kick BUT I didnt' mention it before simply because we had no better options anyway, but I've seen folau goal kick and he is a lot better from what i've seen and IIRC gorrell can kick, I've never rated parker as a goal kicker and I just get the feeling if he continues to goal kick it will cost us in the important or very tight games where 2 points makes all the difference.

I simply want to see someone else (and not lockyer), I really hope folau gets a go, I think he could be very good at it.

You see stats dont' tell the full story, like where he kicked the goals from, the conditions, etc.
However, I will agree when in form he can be like a radar, but when out of form his kicking can be simply shocking which i think he is so far.

Anyway, I think it could be to his benefit if he didnt' have to worry about kicking tbh.

Yes stats don't always tell the full story, so I'm assuming that you've taken close notice of Parker's form over the years right bronopwn?

So you would have seen the 2-3 sideline kicks he did against the Bulldogs in the Preliminary final in 2006...right?
Yep and he silenced the crowd too with it. Like i said when in form he can be radar like and kick every goal (kicked 10/10 last year to start i think) but he is very inconsistent, sometime h will nail the hardest kicks, and miss the easiest ones.

Maybe the worst regular goal kicker is a bit harsh, but he is very inconsistent and you can never be confident about him kicking.

Simply put, I want to see someone else have a go, folau being one i would like to see.

Of course he has, he can remember that Parker has kicked 47% this season! Not 46% or 48%, not even 50%, but 47%.............................. [icon_shady

FTR; sure give someone else a kick, however Parker isn't a poor kicker by any stretch of the imagination and on football form alone he is a definte starter this year....and that's from a guy who wanted his scalp in 2008.
