What is happening at the Broncos?

Has anyone noticed how Hunt is braining it now at St Merge? When Walters coached him here in 2015 he had a good season. It was because Walters was out attack coach everyone said at the time. Without Walters he was no good anymore everyone said. We need Walters back as attack coach. We got him but our attack is lost now. Maybe just maybe we already had the 7 we needed and now he is playing for a different coach in a different structure he is going well. Maybe the problem is at the Broncos and it’s not just the attacking coach but the head coach playing the same tired old footy. Year after year. I know we make the finals every year blah blah blah. Truth is we have not looked like the team to beat for many years now....

My thoughts too. Seems to me that in '15, Milford was playing like he had for years as a FB, running the ball freely, enjoying his game, inter-playing with Hunt - they did some lovely little in-out combinations together, and musn't forget the defence was outstanding. Even Bennett said, IIRC that he decided to leave Milford alone in his 1st year at the Broncos.

Since '16, it seems that the side has been over-coached into a shape and structure that seems to stifle the life out of free running players like Milford, Roberts, maybe Bird although it's a bit early to tell with him, and even Kodi looks glued into some patterns of play that just doesn't work (along with Milford).

Our edge forwards seem to get very little quality ball and our lock is just another (yawn) prop coached it seems, to bash and barge up the middle.

For mine, Walters ought to get Milford and Kodi and work with them so they can play the way that feels right for them because at present, as I look at them, they are not having fun, they following patterns which don't work in attack, and the only times things happen is when they play off the cuff. Our patterns of play seem stifled and stodgy and oh so boring, and like it's been the same for the last 3 years.

As I posted elsewhere, for mine it's less the individual that's the problem, it's how they are told to play.

Hunt's going well because Widdop runs the show, it's that simple.

Hunt is just another Milford, in fact I rate him ahead of Milford as an x-factor type half. I've never been a big fan of Milford, I think he's overrated and massively over paid. At least Hunt always looked like he was giving 110%. Whether that's the truth, I don't know, but I can never shake the feeling Milford doesn't give it his all.

Whether Milford can actually take his game to the next level, and run a team is yet to be seen, but nothing that I've seen of him suggests that he can or has it in him.
I feel the same, I’d rather Hunt on a mill playing 5/8.

What happened to bennetts 2015 quote along the lines of "I'm teaching them defence and haven't even taught them any attack yet". Seems like both have gone out the window since.

I’d go as far to say Milford followed up the ‘15 grand final with better football in the first 6-7 rounds on ‘16. It looked like he’d added some ball playing to his running game.. and then he got absolutely smashed by Cronulla (might have been round 7 - I can’t quite remember). They were obviously given instruction to hit him whenever he had the ball. I don’t think he’s been the same player since then.

Despite what you think about his form.. it must be frigging hard to show some sleight of hand in attack when there are no bodies in motion around the ball player.

He was done for us after GF. He doesn’t drop the ball and I would agree. Best thing for Hunt and Broncs was for him to get a fresh start.

Awesome post. Although I think it’s both the systems and the individuals. Huge feedback loop of crap.

Exactly! I t has a problem for how long now??? And yet, they STILL stand flat and do one out running and passing to forwards on the fifth, I mean these, along with dropping the ball every second play, are just schoolboy errors. What is going on? A highly paid professional team should NOT be doing that, no matter how talented they are or aren't.

Broncos $21 to win the premiership.

Feel cheated taking 12s before a ball was kicked. Still a decent use of chase the ace bonus bets though .... I hope

Once again we seem to share the same thoughts......

Things to do for 2019.....
We need to lock down TPJ and Lodge immediately, these guys are our core forwards. Sims and Thaiday need to go waste of salary cap space. These positions can easily be filled by Fai, Offa, Haas, Flegger, Funaki, Carrigan, Fifita etc etc etc.
We made the grand final with macca/niko hooker combo, niko is explosive for the last 25 mins off the bench makes the big boys in the middle work and second guess. Niko is to accept he is a 14 and that’s all or show him the door.
I respect Boyd to give him the year to play and prove himself... if he can’t play/ still playing 50% because of his injury he medically retires. Bird moves to fullback oppa and jimmy stay at centre.
Pearson can leave unless he is on a bottom tier deal.
If Oates is chasing a big contract show him
the door, I rate him but he isn’t worth 700 or whatever overs he wants.
And we chase a talented number 7 to direct this team around, if we can’t cut a deal for an early release with another NRL club, we find someone in the English Super League. Worst case throw 400 at Hodgkinson for 2 years until we have another option. Players just aren’t showing pride in the jersey this year.

...Boyd and Thaiday seriously need to be considering retirement now....

They signed Boyd last year for FOUR YEARS. Who are/were they kidding??
Maybe it was a golden handshake knowing he’d be lucky to get two more before realizing he wasn’t up to it anymore?

I would like to know what is going through Waynes head right now.
