What is happening at the Broncos?

Foxsports just reported that he is going to test his worth on the open market.

Predictably the Storm and Rabbitohs are supposedly interested.

Particularly if they offer him a spot in the back row.
Yeah that's it. The fact that's he's test his market value sort of tells me that he's after a pay day as well. I'm just hoping he's being curious and the loyalty beats the big offers

Loyalty in NRL went out the door years ago.

I would be really surprised if the Broncos let Oates go. Actually no, I'd be really disappointed and really pissed off. He is a game breaker now and more so in the future irrespective of where he ends up playing.

As I mentioned previously, why wouldn't he? Apparently the Broncs have bought Bird in on big money to play a position they are already very well stocked in despite him having little to no experience there. I'd understand if Oates was a bit ticked off about that.

Look at the likes of TPJ, he's the definition of loyal. I do get what your saying tho

Yeah I wouldn't blame him at all. It's more my wishful thinking talking.

I hear ya my man. If Su'A and Oates go, it is directly related to the mind-boggling decision to sign Bird.

I don't find that decision mind boggling so much as ridiculous given the way he has or rather, hasn't been used for the reason he was apparently signed, which in fact, I really am still trying to fathom. Was it to play lock? Why isn't he there then? He isn't cutting it anywhere else he plays but at the same time, none of the team's structures appear to have been tweaked to suit his skills. Come to think of it, there are no structures in this side at all, so I guess that kind of explains it.

In a way I kinda feel sorry for Bird. He's a very expensive scapegoat.

He's a Newcastle junior who has been at two NRL clubs. He's not exactly Steve Menzies or Greg Florimo. No I have no issue with changing clubs or players seeking deals but let's not cloud history here.

I was more referring to his loyalty to Tonga and the Broncos. You know, the extra 90k a year he turned down from NSW and the big offers from the Sydney clubs trying to sign him.

If that's true I don't like our chances of keeping him.
I don't know. The fact that he's stating that he's going to test his value on the open market makes me think it's more likely he'll stay. That it's just a ploy to make sure the Broncos don't try to shaft him. Surely his manager would have all offers from other clubs on his desk by now. I doubt they have to broadcast the fact that he's off contract.

I think more often than not in these situations, if a player is leaving a club, the offers will be in, the player will have picked the one he fancies, and the deal is signed off on. Then it's leaked.

I confidently(!!!!) predict that Oates re-signs, then declares he had no intention of going anywhere else.

Or it could be that Oates wants to be a backrower and we won't make him one and I highly doubt the reasoning is because we have Bird...

It could be that Su'A wants a starting spot, and we don't have one for him.
