Where does Benji Marshall fit in?

BENJI Marshall has made an impressive debut at Broncos pre-season training, claiming a win in the time trials at his first hitout with his new NRL club.

The former Tiger set the pace at an early morning session at the University of Queensland on Monday, beating fellow new recruits David Mead and Tautau Moga as well as young Bronco Jonus Pearson in the 1.5km trial.

It looked effortless for Marshall and he said afterwards he believes he is only “three or four weeks” away from peak fitness after playing in a touch football competition throughout the off-season.

He spent six weeks with Wests touch football in Sydney and said that was all he needed to be ready for this morning’s session.

“I played a lot of touch over the break at the highest level so I think that helped me,” he said.
“That’s all I did. After the year, I wanted to give my mind a break.
“(It will take) three or four weeks to get to the top. I felt comfortable out there today doing that first test.
“But you can’t replicate game fitness and that will show in the trials and where I’m at after a big pre-season.”
He has come to Brisbane in the hope of winning a centre spot at the club,

It was a short and sharp first day for Marshall, with the players heading to their Red Hill gym afterwards.
Anthony Milford, Corey Oates, Jai Arrow and Tevita Pangai Jnr all returned for pre-season on Monday, with Mitchell Dodds also back after a year in the Super League.
Pangai Jnr won the second trial, with Milford and Oates struggling over the longer distance.
Marshall said it was the first time he had met a number of the players but he was already feeling comfortable with them.
“It’s a bit like the first day at school,” he said.
“You don’t know what to expect and not knowing a lot of people, it makes it different.
“I feel comfortable now.
“I was very excited to meet some of the boys for the first time and get out on the field.”
Marshall also took the time to meet Brisbane’s media, introducing himself to every journalist and cameraman present.

Pangai Jr beating Milford and Oates in the time trial lol, that pretty much proves it, they both need to lose a few kilos in the pre-season, you could tell towards the end of games that they were really lacking fitness this season.

Yeah, especially milford he needs to rip in to this pre season . If he can trim down and add some much needed fitness , he could turn this season into a great one .

I truely believe that Panga jr is gunna light it up this off season to secure the lock position up for grabs, that is the real reason he won.

Would be awesome if he could , but still think he is another year at least away from that

The way he came to the club and played his first few games shows he's on a mission.
His lack of fitness was his biggest weakness so id say WB has had a word and by the looks he is responding.
Bennett's not one to rush these things and rightly so, but it's hard not to get excited isn't it!!

Maybe not quite as 'fast' as you can on the first trial run in training... VERY hard to improve much from there...

That's just the smart/ experienced ones. Questions need to be asked about TPJ haha.

I have to say I've been pretty impressed with benji so far as a bronco. Pretty classy bloke

I think you would give it all you got at the start of preseason with the trial run. You want to push yourself to get to the peak of your fitness and strive to improve all the way up to the season kick off.

Does anyone know when Bennett arrives back from U.K.?

Good to hear he got through a touch footy comp without doing his hammy.

Indeed the Broncos have got him back.

Really? Did the Roosters not want him? It seems he was far closer to nailing than a regular spot there than he is here.
