This is probably close to what our team would look like without injuries or suspension for 2020. It's honestly not a bad team and even a lot of experts were tipping a somewhat successful season with it. Crossed out anyone who wass unavailable due to injuries and suspensions.

We've got most of these for 2021, and will have Boyd and Macca money.
You forgot the part about the coach is too scared to drop Boyd.

To the glue factory.

Honestly I don't know though. It's hard to know what things are actually like at the club, what the attitude of the staff and players is like. It's tough at the moment, being told to wait until our players reach some magical amount of total combined games and then we will hopefully start seeing consistency, but who knows if that will eventuate. I hope over the next few weeks we get a clearer picture of what this club, the players and the coach are about.

Also I need to rant as a biased Broncos fan that I also think we get shafted at every opportunity by the NRL. They absolutely hate us down there, always have done, but the difference is we aren't fielding the QLD State of Origin team wearing Broncos colours like we did through the 90s who could beat the opposition, the refs and the NSWRL. If I were the Broncos, I would be collecting all the evidence of how the refs/judiciary/organisation treat us compared to the others (if there is any, again I could just be completely blinded by bias) and get it out in the media, get the Brisbane fans seething and get the referees feeling nervous about coming across as corrupt.

In this case he doesn't I dont think. The quote was clearly about the pressures outside of the game from social media and players mental health. In no way does that validate his poor form on the field. Its not related to him being finished as a footy player.
Boyd can be his own worst enemy at times with what he says publically and when it comes to social media and one's mental health doesn't help when your in the spot light. My concern for Boyd isn't so much form, that can be addressed with hard work and rebuilding confidence if your upto the task.

My concern is if he mentally tough enough to endure the stress week in and week out and quite frankly I don't think so and if he truly isn't he should get out of it right now, if he truly values his welfare then put his welfare ahead of the game and do so and I would respect him for that. Boyd isn't the first big name player at the Broncos to be in a situation like that.

Langer himself was battling his own mental issues in 1999, despite him playing he was carrying an enormous fear of letting the boys down even knowing mentally he wasn't there. It got so bad Bennett had to bench Langer in a match against the Cowboys cause he was just so rattled, I look at Boyd in recent years and I see the same mentally fragile signs.

Need to start by getting oats off the wing I mean that should just be a given.

Apologies if it’s already been mentioned else where but I’ve read an article on fox sports saying that the Broncos are currently enquiring St George about the prospects of signing Issac Luke for the remainder of the season as well as sounding out Rein and Peats at the Titans.

I honestly don’t know how they’ll get them to release them but you could not script this shit. We get told they are releasing Macca so they can sign Te’o even though Te’o is going to be on minimum wage and we already had an open squad spot for him so clearly that was a lie. Now we let Macca go and a mere week later we are already searching for a back up hooker on the cheap. Jesus Christ we deserve everything we get. This club is being run almost as bad as the Titans

I mean, you could probably get Isaac like and a min wage Teo with Maccas 400k so it’s messy but it works out pretty good for us if it goes ahead.

I think its the opposite with Boyd. These days, mentally, he is pretty tough and resilient. He is in a good place with his life off the field. I think he can handle the ctitics. His problem is his body. It isnt doing what it used to so he cant play fullback, which alongside wing is his best position ( which i also would have concerns about him playing ). He clearly isnt a centre, he clearly isnt a half, both positions that our coach is shoehorning him into because he doesnt have the balls to drop him. He is just finished as a player.

Like i said before though, if his " its only a game " quote was used in its correct context instead of getting twisted as another stick to beat him with ( and really, nobody needs to do that, his performances are all you need to look at ) it would never get brought up.

Would love to have james graham in our pack just ripping our boys to shreds when they drop there head. An absolute hard nut who lives and breathes footy and hates been beaten to lead the young guys around.

I think starting lodge with hass and carigan gives us a bit more stability and as desperate as it sounds have someone like issac luke or whoever we chase for their experience subbing with turpin at hooker would help. Bring ben teo off the bench into the middle with offa and Flegler and that at least gives you a bit more of a mix of new and old in the middle.

Moving forward when we start getting troops back if we can have an edge of pangai one side and fifita the other and a bench of issac luke, glenn, offa and teo it balances us out alot. I know its tough to leave flegler out but I'd love to see how the guys attitude improves with the added experience and cool heads.

As for the outsise backs i have no suggestions. We just need our middle to rIp in to at least give our backs a chance.

The whole “it’s just a game” thing would make sense to most of you if you felt like killing yourself every day. It can be used out of context all you guys want but it’s pretty dishonest to do so, knowing what he meant by it.

I have dealt and continue to deal with mental illness myself, including depression(which I still am battling) and alcoholism brought on with the development of epilepsy, you can convince yourself your fine when the truth is it's anything but and that is my concern for Boyd. Battling with mental illness is an on going process and you have to recognise issues in your life that are contributing in a negative fashion and weight up the worth of what contributes to that. If his position in the spot light of playing Rugby League puts him in such a position to having a negative effect on his mental welfare then one has to question the wisdom of being in a position where that continues.

Now your right the it's just a game has been taken out of context and to be honest I did so myself and I apologise for that, I was being an ass there. But lets also recognise what that means here, if it's just a game and it's causing you serious harm you need to take a step back either consider taking a break or walk away completely. All said and done I'm glad he has decided to retire at the end of the season and regardless I wish him well.

Fair bit of truth in this.

You mean the captain of a team that's been going down the gurgler dismissing criticism because the game isn't that important to him? Get fucked. You don't appoint a leader who can't hold his shit together. He deserved to be sacked as captain.

well....at least it appears e are tiring to be proactive.....maybe these type of players are what the club SHOULD have pursued rather than Arthurs but I digress...

Has anyone watch Billy Walters when he was playing 80 minutes for the Tigers earlier in the season? He wont get that amount of minutes now that Grants here but im keen to know if he is a good on-field communicator, if he has the footy IQ to help guide his forwards around the park..?

Maybe not this season but I think he should represent a medium term target for this team. Rein, Peats, Luke....if you can sweet talk them into getting a minimum deal like Te'o then it "could" be something the team needs...

Theres the other angle that says they aren't starters at their respective clubs for a reason...

But we, as the beggar, cant be choosers....proper NRL veteran leadership and nous is what we lack...again this should have been addressed off season, but here we are...

His problem is our problem.
“I used to do the opposite six years ago and look at social media when I was going through some struggles with mental health,” Boyd said. “I was reading everything which is the worst thing that you can do. “I learned that it is only a game. And I learned I just have to please my teammates, myself and my coach - that’s all I can do.”

It’s about dismissing insults. It’s dismissing ***** on the internet who go way too far with their insults and don’t have anything worthwhile to say. It’s dismissing dorks who have nothing better to do than post negative things on social media about someone because they have no life. It has nothing to do with dismissing valid criticisms. It’s specifically aimed at avoiding people like you and IBM (who blocks people when questioned) who take things way too far without any consequences.

I don't think a player who leans back on "mental health issues" as an excuse for cheating on his wife, becomes a glaring team liability due to poor effort, who claims "he's trying too hard," and evolves into an internet meme for being a revolving door in defence is a great choice for captain. Is that really such a controversial opinion?

I do believe someone who the team looks up to, someone who checks on the players on his own time, someone who works with the community and someone who is one of the most experienced players in the game was a good choice for captain. It turned out that he wasn’t a good fit eventually and it was rectified. We weren’t talking about him being captain though, were we?

Some of you have gotten so good at avoiding the point and spinning things (because you’ve been allowed to for years) that it’s just second nature for some of you.
