Its not that i cant see what he possibly could bring. If we want an experienced coach, i think we are looking at him or Brad Arthur. I'd prefer Arthur out of the two, but neither really fill me with any confidence. I think right now, Madge's stock is higher based on him doing decent with NZ and NSW beating our weakened Queensland team. He hasnt been a good club level coach since 2015, which is a fair while ago now.

Also, while i dont agree this would be fair, if he doesnt hit the ground running, the daggers are going to be out for him considering his background. He's a vastly experienced head coach who will ( if he gets the job ) be inheriting a side more than capable of finishing top 6, if not higher. If he cant deliver that we will probably be looking at another coach this time next year.

People aren't intimidated anymore by yelling, there's no reason to be.

Bellamy has been caught yelling and screaming in the coaching box, players and fans think it's hilarious. Nobody is scared of that shit. It is not what gets results.

Yelling has never been intimidating. The yelling from Bellyache is about his passion and desire to win at all costs. So you respect it and him for his passion and drive to be the best. I doubt any of these coaches go in there thinking they are going to scare a bunch of muscled up athletes haha.

Thanks for the answer. I get it, we all don't like the same people. Honestly haven't seen an interview I dislike him from.

I'm not completely sold on Maguire, but he is probably one of the best at coming in and getting results quickly. It's when it drags on he struggles barring NZ.

If we sign Maguire, I would imagine Trent Barrett would be a frontrunner for the NSW job, so depending on how that goes, we may be able to sign Thorn as an assistant as well as Maguire.

Win win. We can get back on the road to a prem and QLD will have the shield for the next three years.

I agree there are risks with this one but I think they are worth taking. I would have gone Flanno who you also from memory despise haha. Arthur would be my second out of who is available and ready day one. But for me I would only see him as another stop gap coach. A Hook 2.0 who will have us playing well and being there abouts each year but never really getting us home. Madge is either a decade of success guy or quick out the door mistake. I am willing to take the punt on him being ready to bring this club back to the winning fold.

This is a tough one.

However, I think one thing is clear, the Brisbane Broncos are not a club that can go with a rookie coach. the pressure and the expectation from both the fans and media, make this role the hardest head coaching role in Aussie sport. It's too much for a coach with their L-plates on to handle.

so for me that leaves us with 3 options: Michael Maguire, Brad Arthur or Shaun Wane. so let's take a look at them a bit more closely.

Michael Maguire.
NRL Premiership, Challenge Cup (ESL), Super League Premiership, Pacific Championship (NZ), State of Origin winner

Winning %: Wigan = 76% | Souths = 56% | Tigers = 36%

Madge has taken control of some high profile clubs both in Australia and England and had plenty of success doing it. He lead Wigan to their first GF in 7 years and first premiership in 10 years.

Then he came back to Australia and lead Souths to their first title in 43 years.

yes he failed at the Tigers, but so did Ivan Cleary and he is about to be involved in his 5th straight GF (he's won 3 straight so far). so take out the Tigers stats and he has a career winning % of 61.9%.

Brad Arthur
Coached in 5 finals series (in 10 years) at the Eels. Coached in 1 GF (2022)

Winning %: Eels = 52% and Leeds = 50% (only 10 games)

He took over the Eels at a particularly poor time for the club. (coming in after they won several consecutive wooden spoons).

He did a decent job rebuilding the club despite the constant boardroom battles. turned them into a competitive outfit (most years), but IMO isn't capable of taking the next step.

Shaun Wane
3 x Super League Premierships, 2 x Challenge Cup Titles

Winning %: Wigan = 68%

although he is untried at NRL level, he took over from Madge at Wigan, which is the closest to expectation and pressure to the Broncos as can be found outside Australia.

in 7 years at the helm of the Warriors he lead them to 5 titles (3 Premierships and 2 cup titles) which is impressive.

he's also had success as a rep coach taking charge after Bennett in 2020 and has an 80% winning record from 10 games in charge to date.

Verdict:
my vote to replace Kevvie is Michael Maguire. I think he is the most likely to handle the role placate the fans by bring success to the team fairly quickly.

p.s. Matty Johns says he'll get us a premiership within 2 years. hopefully he's on the mark if Madge gets the gig

The WT were never a good fit for Madge, where we are right now, we are the perfect fit imo.
