NEWS Why Haas Rejected 6m Offer

I don't think they will void his contract when he goes to court. It's more likely his previous management will have to compensate him financially.
Yes, if his management misled him into signing a contract the contract could be voided, but if the issue is solely about the timing and the commission, not the nature or terms of the football contract, you would think it shouldn't be impacted.

I notice the prevailing media opinion is turning against the notion of him being a "million dollar man:"

No one's questioning his ranking as a prop, but I think if wants to raise his value to a team, he needs to go to the next level and score tries. That's the only justification for paying David Fifita so much. He doesn't put in a fraction of the workload of Payne, but his uncanny knack of finding the line justifies his pay packet.

That said, like Milford, Fifita and Bird, Payne might only get one big contract, and this is likely to be it. He needs to strike when the hype is hottest.

I hate to say it, because i love him as a player, but i think the club might even be better off cutting him loose.
The whole reason we won the spoon is because the club changed into an organization that pandered to player demands and overpaid players who were not worth their value.
This set a culture in motion that led to the club being filled with entitled young men who placed a far higher importance on themselves and their value, than the value of the club and playing for the Broncos.
This led us directly to the wooden spoon.

Instead of fixing that issue, we tried to employ intelligent coaches (Seibold) to skirt around the issue to keep our high paid stars.
This is slowly being fixed with the introduction of Ikin and Donuts and as is evident they have started getting rid of the entitled players who thought they were bigger than the club. (TPJ, Lodge, Milford etc).

The effect keeping someone like this around the playing group cant be good either, as any stars of the side will be influenced by Haas and by proxy his cronies from the Roosters filling his head with promises of a better life and payday in Sydney.

This all started as rumor a week ago and has evolved rapidly into what a lot us were worried about.
I think the only way we get this club back to a consistent top 4 side, is through keeping players that genuinely want to be here, and know that the club will look after them and repay their loyalty in the long run.

I could be completely wrong but i don't think one player, who seems to keep wanting more and more from the club, is good for anyone involved and will bring disharmony to the team with its drama.

Just to expand on the above.
Look at clubs like Penrith, and Melbourne, and even the Rorters, these are clubs filled with players who want to win premierships first and foremost for their club, and the money is secondary (this is particularly true for the Panthers and Melbourne).

Players go to these clubs for unders because there is a both a legitimate chance at a premiership and a culture of club unity.

I remember when the Broncos were like that, and we almost never missed the eight.
There was a sense of club loyalty and pride and people wanted to be a part of that regardless of the pay.
When that culture ended, we went downhill and the decline has only just started slowing because Donuts and Ikin have started removing those elements that foster that mercenary culture of being bigger than the club.

Lets say that you get players like Coates and Haas who are apparently willing to go to winning clubs for more of a chance to win premierships (and we know this isn't accurate either as they are getting benefits elsewhere), how do struggling clubs battle this? They cannot offer the culture or potential for upward trajectory which leads to less sponsorships and they will never be able to recover. We are different because our off-field idiots screwed the club up over 1-2 decades, it is own fault. But for clubs like the Tigers, how do they compete when whatever kids they do have coming through just go elsewhere?

Win games and they will come. Simple as that.

I am confident we will pay Payne what he's worth. I reckon he's being paid what he's worth right now, but if he can hone his attacking game into tries - which is oddly lacking - he'll be worth more to us.

For example, this kid just got lucky because he bagged some tries against us over the weekend, right after missing a bunch of tackles last week.

The Broncos also had the best third party deals going around.

This is true.
Has that changed?
Still a one team town for the moment, so they would have the monopoly on that.

I think after what happened with Melbourne, all the clubs (including us), went really cautious on 3rd party deals. It's not as big as it used to be.

Old article but you can see how much it fell for us in 2019.

Confirmed Haas agent is actively shopping him around. Sauce is worried Haas has already decided and will derail the rest of the season. Rooster have knocked him back on 1mil. Unsure of details below that.
How can he shop him around with three years left on the contract, surely that's breaking some rules somewhere in the NRL?

Also, how would he derail the rest of the season? If he plays below what he has been putting in week in week out, wouldnt that also be a breach of contract or rules that would see him de-registered?

Talking about "future options beyond current contract".
I see, still, its 3 years away, and talk of derailing the season speaks of being a hell of a lot sooner than the end of his contract.

If his head is elsewhere it could impact his game.

Sure, but he did just come out publicly and say he is leaving all that stuff to his management so he can focus on his footy.

I am at the point where i want him to leave now to be honest. He is going Coates level of bullshittery.

But let's say he does sign a contract for 2025, he isn't getting whatever stupidity this results in until 2025. What is him and his manager playing at now? I mean I get it, if he agitates enough, he will get a release but this is unheard of ridiculousness. I really hope we stick to our guns and Ben Simmons it if we have to by saying we aren't doing any deal with anyone unless we get a superstar in return. If we don't, sorry Payne mate you are stuck playing Q Cup and are to stay away from the rest of the playing group. If he then does an SBW, so be it. It would actually be best (if all of this is true which it certainly seems to be) that Payne removes himself from league and we get his money for next season back on our cap and not have to worry about playing against him if he isn't in the NRL. What an absolute dog's breakfast.
