NEWS Why Haas Rejected 6m Offer

Isnt there something the player loses financially if they are the ones that instigate a move?
I believe you're confusing that with a rumour that players couldn't break a contract to pursue a better offer at a rival club. I don't believe that ever came to fruition.

When you're a player of Payne's stature there's very little risk in asking for a release.

No, its defiantly something financial thats part of the original contract they signed if they are the ones who want to break it. I've sent a text to somebody who will 100% be able to tell me what it is but no reply yet. Pretty sure its something to do with a signing on fee they get when they sign up for X amount of years and part of it has to be paid back if they dont fulfill their obligations.

I wouldn't be shocked if there's some clauses but in the grand scheme of things it would be negligible.

Depending on the contract, they get a fair bit. Just got the confirmation its that plus anything the club have advanced you and things like the cars they get ( which are very generous from the Broncos compared to other clubs ) they have to pay back some hire cost the club covers. Some players get paid up front for gear and other things. As an example, a few years ago the entire squad got given $10k each to spend on casual sports wear and the same at Trade tools. There was a player who had to refund some of that on a pro rata basis. Couldnt tell you though what they get right now, but Broncos have always got the players good deals. Even the suits they are provided with arent cheap.

From what i'm told, most of the time if the move is mutual then the Broncos dont try to chase up too much of it. Generally, if they are doing the right thing then i think its pretty amicable.

So how long until he announces he wants out do you think?

Weidler reporting that Haas' new management will be asking the Broncos for $1m for 2023 & $1m for 2024. He then went on to say the Broncos may have trouble with Payne if the club doesn't come to the $ being requested.
If this is the case, I'd be sticking strong as a club.
He's signed a contract, honour it. He is on good money as a forward as it is. He is currently our highest paid player and if he doesn't love the club and it's all about the $ (which it is now coming across like) then I'd be happy for the club to dig their heels in.
He got a pay rise last year again, the club weren't obliged to give it to him.
It's all getting very interesting but I'm starting to think this will not end well and if that's the case, I hope the club do not grant him an early release.
We shouldn't be a player ran club otherwise we will be in for many more spoons yet.

Nope, but i dont think that is the dominant reason for rejecting the 6 million dollar offer. It would play a part for sure, but i also think he would be very aware just how much he could make elsewhere on and off the books.

He would know the $6 million dollar deal isn't going anywhere

That means also knows he has plenty of time to sort out his manager issues before signing any new deal

Goodbye Payne ... I hope you enjoy shitney and golf

It isn’t mate, Isaako just walked for nothing.

Isaako isn't Payne Haas.

Besides, wasn't that a tactical decision that gives us slightly more cap room next year due to a salary cap loop hole

Just more money for nothing hey? Wow it’s good to be Payne! You want more money you sign a longer deal.

Seriously **** this guy, this is about more than winning or losing games now. What’s he going to do if he doesn’t get his million? Scream at us? We aren’t female cops Payne, I know that is who you prefer to victimise.

See ya Payne.

As much as i love him as footballer, this is exactly the kind of rot that led us to the wooden spoon, and so far Ikin and Donuts have done a great job at removing that rot from the club.

If this is the stance Haas wants to take with the Broncos, he can walk and good riddance.

If he goes to the Roosters before the contract is over there needs to be a massive investigation into the league, and I'm out. Seriously, this would be the final straw for me. (Not if he leaves after the end of the contract, but if he leaves before it.)
This 100%.
