NEWS Xavier Coates: why I chose the Storm over the Broncos

He’s just a liar.

Wow. I'd like a reply from someone more knowledgeable about this sort of thing, but I can't remember a time where he wasn't picked, barring injury.

more effort than he deserves lol

I think there was a time in 2021 where he wasn’t getting picked, I think he had already signed with storm though so Kev was basically not picking him because of that. That’s just off the top of my head probably not accurate

But to act like that was the reason he left is BS we were shit at the time and storm are top 4 every year settled with Bellamy, would’ve been a pretty easy decision to make if I was him

So in conclusion, dude is a liar.

More reason to hate on the storm when we play them I guess.

Kevvie sat him out for six weeks; he didn't play Cup or any football then bought him back for the last month. He'd already signed with the Storm.

The real reason he signed is he came from the Storm originally, Broncos took him. Geyer and Bunn have got in his ear and got him back at a time when the Broncos sucked.

Bunn would have used his you can stay at Tafe or come to Yale line- same thing he said to Utoikamanu.

Hearing Coates speak, I doubt he'd have understood the line.

The timing of Coates' demotion was strange as well considering it happened right after he produced the only decent play in an utterly forgettable performance against Souths (try-saver on Gagai).

It just seemed like Kev had drawn a line in the sand. Both Pangai Jr and Lodge played their last games that night and it seemed like Coates was a part of that as well.

The Storm inquired about an early release and Brisbane rejected it, leading to a lot of public pressure. It seemed like the Broncos couldn't win - they got criticised heavily for releasing Walsh, Dearden and then they're getting criticised for standing their ground.

It was like the media had collective amnesia and forgot how difficult Melbourne made Donaghy's transition to the Broncos.

Regardless, I'd like to see the actual context behind the clip because it sounds like Xavier's just talking about the most challenging part of his career.

I don't even think Coates is talking about it in a negative way; to me he's saying on reflection it was a hard time, but I think it was good for me.
