Sack Griffin/New Coach Discussion

Re: New coach

Clear problems exist in the roster and ultimately that's the responsibility of the coach, I think hook is the right guy but he's going to have to pull something big out because it only gets worse next season.

Re: New coach

I don't know. I'm no expert on this shit, but someone with a brain fix this shit.

Re: New coach

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Pay good money for the most talented young players we can get our hands on until the following is possible. Write off a season if we have to, and give some young recruits some experience. Note here : recruits ! We don't have most of what I'm talking about right now.

There are very few elite coaches. Given our wealth and resources, we should spend whatever is required to get one.

Coaches are not counted under the cap.

Our hookers aren't very good, although I think Wallace is our best option.

A bit left field, but I want to throw this out there.

Every man has his price. And our accountants could be really creative with this.

I don't care to look up his contract situation because the package we "could" throw at him "could" be too hard to refuse.

He has no experience at all, but just about everybody says he will make an outstanding coach.

Throw the kitchen sink at -

Cameron Smith. Captain Coach with a front ended contract.

There I've said it. Let the pigeons loose.

For all the love the big 3 and Bellamy have for each other, at some point one of them is gonna fly the coup and then it will all come crashing down. I for one, would love us to be the ones to pull apart the foundations.

And finally, new owners of the Storm. Must be some uncertainty about the place. Heard that new pommy CEO of theirs talking about resigning Smith so his contract must at least need an extension currently. Strike while the iron is hot and we may even get a couple of quality years out of him on the field.

Oink !

Re: New coach

Yeah, like I said in another thread, I think he could make a great coach if he wanted to be one.

Actually, I checked and it turns out he's already an assistant coach. I did not know that. He's assistant coach at the Raiders, but what's even better is that he was an assistant coach and the Doggies in 11 and 12....so for all we know it was Noddy who had a hand in coming up with their wonderful style. He does seems like he knows his shit, he might be able to identify all the things we need to fix.

Clear problems also exist in the game plan and team structures as well. I'd prefer hook to stay if he improves these areas. Need a few star players that is for sure.

Re: New coach

It will be interesting to see if griffin will get the same treatment as henjak.

Re: Sack Griffin

He has to make some changes and fast. It doesn't look good for him that is for sure.

Re: Sack Griffin

Tunza for defence and Lockyer sounds great.

Nevertheless, we keep scoring terrific tries - now and then. However, we don't have a true leader and organizer on field to keep it regular and together - a major problem which won't go away until it's fixed, and we won't threaten the top sides without one

Teaching effective defence is schoolboy stuff. Both coaching staff AND players are responsible for putting in: line speed AND making a tackle properly. We are utter failures most of the time here. Last night we virtually gave the ball and acres of space to Johnson, Locke and co and said "here - have some fun boys ...".

Hook is not the only one to take responsibility. Each and every NRL player knows the ropes or they wouldn't have got this far. Trouble is, they don't put in 110% and the ropes have become a noose. This is the Broncos FFS! Have some pride and show it where it counts.

Re: New coach

Hook has something Henjak didn't - the support of the players.

In which case each player individually and as part of the team ought to put in 110% which is a major part of the problem.

To make NRL level, you would assume every player knows the importance of basics like defensive line speed, don't miss a tackle, a good passing game and constant support play.

It's not just the coach. It's also each and every player

2014 + Griffin + Current Players = Below Average Team.

Its great that Griffin has this so called "support of the players" but something has to give. Either he gets 4 or 5 new recruits (and not previous Broncos please) to work with or we get a coach with different ideas and challenges for the current squad.

I for one would be happy for Griffin to get another chance with said 4 or 5 new players coming into the squad. My guess is that if results dont improve it would be a bit of both, new coach and new players. Once crowds and sponsorships start dropping and the financial impact of a poor team is seen i would expect changes.

Maybe a coaching change is the easiest way to a different roster? Can Griffin attract other clubs players?

I just hope if Griffin falls on his sword then Gee also puts his hand up and admits that his current role may be beyond his skill level.

Re: New coach

Why should we be giving Griffin another chance? The only time he's looked like he was competent was when he had a future immortal running the show and Griffin was merely spectating (probably at training as well). Pretty much every player has gone backwards under him, and the only ones who have improved only did so when his hand was forced and he had to move players from their positions (this probably caused him sleepless nights as it messes with his no frills, stock 17 approach). Why would we be any different if we signed a bunch of players? He clearly has no idea how to formulate a gameplan at this level, short of run one outs and try and bash the shit out of the other side with pure size and strength - sounds like he's about 15 years too late to the party with that idea.

People are saying, oh but who, there's no good coaches out there. Sure there is, but they're just not the big names people are wanting. Besides, Griffin wasn't a big name and everyone was happy to pump his wheels up, why can't we have the same perspective when hiring another coach - one that has likely had success over in the ESL or has some sort of experience coaching etc at this level?

Just because I'm bitter and frustrated I'll say this, I'm sure glad we're sitting on our free salary cap money deriding all the options available as not good enough or too expensive. yeah, because 1) the options we have are so much better and 2) i'm sure we'll spend it when another good option becomes available... or we'll say he's not worth the market value and put our money away, again... while the fortress falls down because we still think it's 1998.
