Griffin confident broncos will rebound as title contenders

I do however wonder whether a good season next year will mean he will stick around for a few more years. I really hope a decent year isn't enough for us to overlook the possibility of bringing in someone more decent such as a mcguire et al. (Tho i still want Kev)
 
he specifically said "external" pressure, twice. he'd know that within the club if he doesnt perform this year he's gone. he's not exactly going to say that to the media though.

he's admitting they were miles off last year so thats enough for me. they know where they stand.

 
He does however have to admit it when he gets things wrong .... like interchange, or even faulty gameplans.

I really hope he mixes things up a bit next year as he showed a stubbornness last season that certainly didn't help our cause.

Sorry, i didn't mean he had to admit his failings in the media at all.

Moreso he needs to admit, to himself, that something isn't working and change it.

He has to be more versatile.

No it's not, if you have ever held a senior management position in an organisation you will understand that it is all down to results and if you have not met your kpi's or what have you, then you feel the pressure. Being in management is very much a pressure cooker environment regardless of the industry.
If you are in senior management, you should know better than to be so negative.
Yes there is pressure but sometimes the staff need to be cuddled along to achieve great results. We are not sure whether the results are to do with Griffin alone or whether it goes further up the tree but regardless there seems to be action taken and his job will likely end if there is no improvement.
I am a glass half full type of guy and i believe we will see improvement, you only have to look at the feathers being ruffled around the NRL that they are in their and fighting for staff and players

Mate I am in senior management and I can tell you it is not they way you have described. Yes everyone feels the pressure and it can be a very stressful environment, but the only place where employers would treat anyone the way you prescribe that griffin should be treated are either in defunct organisations or the movies

So you'd rather your staff to stress out and be under the pump, rather than be calm, collected, and get their job done in a supportive environment?

Wouldn't like to work under you, would allow you to look after staff if were above you. Terrible attitude.

I completely disagree. I work for a very large firm. All staff and managers alike feel the pressure when the organisation is not performing. I am in no way saying that staff should feel stressed beyond belief or anything of that nature, which has been suggested. What i am saying is that if staff and management are not performing to the standard of their employment contract (Granted I do not know what hooks is) that they are told, and encouraged to work harder and smarter or they may not have a job. That is simple business. You have kip's to meet and if you are not meeting them well you better get it together. As you are also senior management I'm sure you have had and performed many a performance review, granted you need to encourage the staff but you also need to show authority and apply a level of pressure in a professional manner of course.

Thats fine. the attitude of many these days is to be spoon fed and told they are doing a great job when they are not. If you don't pull your weight, shape up or ship out. Of course i encourage workers and i have a great working relationship with my team, but i do not put up with slackers or people who believe for some reason they should be handed things.

Agreed if they have a chip on their shoulder or expect everything handed to them ship them out but i am not sure this is what Griffin is expecting. I think he knows his job is on the line

Agreed, but he won't say that in the media, so the only way to show he's understood that is with how he coaches next year. If there's no change in those areas you've highlighted, then we know he's missed the point.

The results won't come, and he'll be sacked.

When someone or a group is not performing or reaching their set KPI's, the last thing you should do is add more pressure by threatening their job. You evaluate the situation together and try to find causes for the issues, while taking circumstances into account.

Based on the above, you either decide the person was provided with all the means necessary and should've have achieved the goals, which is where you generally part ways, or there were circumstances and failures at different levels which explain the failure.
This is where you make a plan and provide the necessary tools and support to mitigate circumstances, correct those failures, and allow that person/group to perform at the level you want.

Going to someone and tell him: "make it better or else...", is akin to setting him up for failure.

No. I am not saying they shouldn't be encouraged, in fact i said they should.and if you think for some strange reason that we wouldn't implement or have implemented all possible means to help people succeed, then you are crazy. We are a successful organisation for a reason. Also If you think slackers deserve to have their performances sugar coated, then you probably agree with all the unfair dismissal laws that have crippled small business.

Agreed that he doesn't have to announce any of his shortcomings to the media, but he had plenty of chances to prove to all that he is smart and can change things when something clearly isn't working.

Hopefully we see lots of changes next season.

Nice of him to at least admit this now. May-June was when every single other person watching the club identified it though...

The season "might" have been recoverable at that point if he wasn't as blind as he has clearly shown he is...

But hey they were busy telling everyone else at that point that only "they" understand what's really happening!
 
As it's been said though, there wasn't a whole lot he could do with his Origin troops out.

We fell out of the top 8 in round 10 (before origin started) and we never made it back in.

Trying something before the last few rounds couldn't have made ANY difference except a positive one...
