I thought Maranta should have gone back in. The flick pass wouldn't have been necessary then.
Could I ask for some of your awesome work and put the video up of this moment?

Kodi looks back inside and then pins his ears back. Maranta sees this and eases up. That's the way I see it, anyway.

I have no clue as to how to take something from fox and post it. Surely you have a replay Porthoz, after viewing I'm sure you will concede you called it wrong. Maranta did nothing wrong and was perfectly positioned to accept anything coming back, had his eyes firmly fixed on Niko and it was only the less than perfect flick that allowed Milford to pick it up. Maranta cannot read Nikos mind who apparently decided to go for the line . Even though Maranta eased up a little he was still in prime position and had been so for the entire break. He backed up like a classic fullback and was the first one to support Niko. Look again and if you find fault it is due to bias.

Vidot came off the bench today; came on after 25 and played in the middle running on the left hand side. He was alright.

I've seen it several times and totally disagree. He held back, switched off, and was NOT expecting the pass when it came.
On top of that, he trails Kodi instead of opening a line of pass.

You want to call it bias, go right ahead, but that is what happened.

That's how I saw it too. Maranta backed up the play until the last second. Kodi looks like he's backing himself so Maranta decelerates and barely has time to make a grab at the pass. Milford is a couple of paces behind, foot still on the gas and takes the pass at speed. If not for Milf, I think that chance goes begging.

In fairness though, I don't think anyone saw that pass coming and Maranta's proximity worked against him. Pass was almost past him before he had time to react. The extra distance Milf had to work with was beneficial.

The second try by Milford, you can see Norman going off on the front on angle.

LOL loved it.

I don't think Maranta was that at fault, Kodi didn't really seem to be trying to set up any support player. I think Maranta has horrible awareness. It's honestly terrible IMO. But I don't think he's to blame here.

However, the key thing to watch for is the first play in that set. Blair hits it up and you see a support player flashing by him. That player is Milford. So Milford has supported one hit up, then immediately followed up and supported the next play as well.

I have no doubt that had the pass been directed directly at Maranta he would have accepted it and scored untouched. At the time of the flick pass Maranta was three metres behind and running straight at the open line. The nearest opposition player was ten metres away and no chance of stopping Maranta who had a dead straight unimpeded line to the in goal.

During the break he repositioned himself based on Nikos decision to angle towards the corner. It was only the slightly mistimed flick that resulted in Milford receiving the ball. He was a latecomer and thankfully was there to get the easy catch and score. Maranta was absolutely faultless on this occasion, not even Lockyer could have done more. Not that it need be written but I apply my comment on Lockyer to this one isolated passage of play.

Seriously, Maranta is being bagged for not scoring Milford's try? I was yelling at Nikorima for going the risky pass and not just giving it to Maranta who was by far in the best position to score. Porthoz, we'll write it off as poor eyesight for now, but seriously?

Maranta put himself in good position for a conventional draw and pass situation .... however Nikorima saw a chance to score himself and left the flick pass till the last second.

We were lucky we didn't butcher that.

IMO after looking at the replay, Maranta was positioned in support well for about 3/4 of the break. Once it looked like Nikorima was gunning for the line, trying to score himself, Maranta took his foot off the pedal. what i would have liked to see, is Maranta continue to support the play until it died, or the try was scored. that way if Nikorima was stopped short of the line Maranta could be there for a quick play the ball.

If Maranta stayed at the same pace whilst backing Nikorima up, he overtakes him. He had to slow down.
