Ben Hunt vs Ash Taylor

It'll never happen obviously re Wallace, but the more I see of him at Hooker, the more I like it. Could challenge for the NSW hooking role IMO. Could of course be a purple patch.

And Hunts attack is superior to Milfords so **** Milford off and have him partner Soward. Yes, that's right... Let that sink in.
I'm not going to go into the Hunt is better than Milford discussion, but as a half, I would probably agree that Hunt trumps Milford at the moment, however I think Milford has a higher ceiling and will develop to become the better player.
And yes, Soward would also be a better halves partner to Hunt than Milford, whom I wouldn't dump, but move to fullback. Imagine that! :takdir:

Then we'll just lose that organizer at the back which contributed to our great defence last year.

There were suggestions on BHQ about moving him there under Griffin's reign at the Broncos.

I seem to remember it happened a couple of times and they moved Macca into the 2nd row? I don't think he failed at hooker, but Macca failed at 2nd row or something....

True... but I'd rather move Boyd to the 3/4s where we are really lacking, than lose either of Milford or Hunt.

If we just wanted a halfback with a kicking game then we should just sign Soward. Yeh that's right, Jamie Soward who has one of the best kicking games going around and can kick a field goal. Let that sink in a bit more for you
Far too fat, big beer gut and is getting old

How many halfbacks have thrown intercept passes before, come on

I agree, but if we are going to rip into Hunt for every fucking thing, it's only far that the golden child cops even close to the same.

I want a halfback who can kick the match winning field goal like Taylor did against the Sharks....
You do know that the Sharks didn't kick a field goal either
and Here is some proof of the offsides too, which I think might have contributed

Players are always offside when a team is taking a field goal.

It's been that way for years. It's not something new that's crept into the game, it's been the case for a very long time now.

It's up to the players to adapt.

Still for a Young player like Ash Taylor, He hasn't really had the time to adapt

Ok, so two sets of halves couldn't kick a field goal under pressure, but Ben Hunt is the only one we pick on? I'm sure when Hunt attempts field goals the defence is always back the full 10.

The bloke has flaws in his game, which are exaggerated by the fact that his halves partner also couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery, while his forwards have been putting up the fight of a wet paper bag for the last 10 rounds. Losing Taylor sucks, but everyone is kidding themselves if they think we'd be better off right now with him in the team.

I'm all for the club going after Taylor at the end of his current contract. Let the Titans do the hard work while we have a crack at a premiership in the 2 years.

The one thing that worries me about Ben this year is the decline in his defence. He was one of the best defensive halfbacks the previous 2 years but has been very poor this year. And yet he's still a better defender than Taylor.

I think Hunt's defence is made to sound worse than what it actually is.

A large portion of his missed tackles happened in the middle of the field trying to tackle blokes 3 time his size. At least 10 of those missed tackles came from Round 14 throwing himself at Paulo to slow him down for the defenders around him.

With Gillett not there defending next to him for a few games there, he was a little exposed and that's where quite a few of his missed tackles came from. He has developed a combination with Gillett and once he lost that combination when Gillett got injured, he was a little exposed because of unfamiliarity with his replacement. I don't think it's as bad as it looks on the stats sheet. As I said before, quite a few of those happened around the middle of the field throwing himself at the big blokes to slow them down.

His overall tackle effectiveness is actually not bad, 81.5%.

Benji is almost certain to leave the Dragons at the end of the season...

Still, it isn't good enough Freaky.

In fact, his defence was one of his stronger points last year. Maybe the numbers don't reflect that, but Hunt's ability to read the play and initiate a dominant tackle was key to the Broncos dominant defensive structure.

This year he's been more loose than usual and the results speak for themselves.

Pairing him with an 18-year old hasn't helped his cause, but even when he's had the best backrow in the game next to him, his efforts have been less than impressive.

It may sound odd, but if Hunt can fix his defence, I believe it will have a domino effect on the rest of his game. Sometimes it's just that injection of confidence that really sparks a player on and if Hunt does improve, don't be surprised if it's on the back of a big hit.

Can't believe we're still seeing calls for Milford at fullback. It's Lockyer 2.0 all over again.
