I absolutely love Ben Hunt, and this news upsets me emotionally and sentimentally. But I think it's the most logical, team-first move.

He is a fantastic player in his own right, but I've never been fully at ease with he and Milford as a halves pairing. They're both too off the cuff. When they're firing and everything is going our way, they're electric. But we need a controlling half who can steer the ship and get us the ascendency when a game gets into an arm wrestle.

I don't see us needing to replace him with somebody of his calibre, we have enough flair and x factor in Milford. We really just need a plain, boring half who can perform a certain set of tasks. I don't see why we need two halves with speed to take on the line as mentioned above. I'd take an Adam Reynolds style player any day to partner Milford.

What about a swansong lifeline for Jamie Soward if Hunt starts the season with his mind elsewhere? His kicking is among the best of them, and the Bennett relationship. Just a left field idea if we think our window is fast closing and need to go all out in '17

I'm on the Foran bandwagon, but I'll settle for Johnson or Taylor. Nobody else available will improve our side.

Not sure why all of you Hunt "lovers" are so down for???
Yes I'm not a fan and with great reason, just look at facts.
So sick of hearing about his potential and he will be great now etc. he's not a kid and is not that good just face it. He surprised me 2015 and had a great year which got us to GF. But literally that's it. He's played a lot of games so yes 1 good year out of how many for me just doesn't cut it. Poor game management and we will do better. It's not like a Locky or Alf leaving us. I'm more pissed we let Ash Taylor go.

Oh it's gonna take years to replace him.
REPLACE WHAT??? We won nothing with him Nudda zero.
We are the Broncs, since when did we become mediocre and celebrate just making playoffs and a GF. We haven't won since 06 and it's just not good enough.
Rant over (for now)

You make it out like it's our fault... grow up.

No.

Just calling out a certain poster on his silly comment about how easy it will be to replace Hunt.

Still waiting on said poster to put his money where his mouth is.

It's not just a matter of picking a bloke and saying "sign here".

Assuming that you can find (you know, one who is available, a word a few people around here might want to look up in the dictionary, because clubs don't generally let their starting halves go early) a better player (because after all the crap that's been spewed here about Hunt's deficiencies; you can only imagine what might be said about a lesser player) then you've still got to sign him.

When Hunt is on a mill and Mbye is on 700k, every half's salary will go up be comparison. You don't think Elgey and Taylor and Cleary might think that they are worth more than Mbye? And we want to pay Mbye wages to guys that we have prise away from their current club.

By the way, when those guys come off contract (end 18) you'll find the Cows and the Storm will be flush with cash and looking for halves. So there will be heaps of competition.

So can't sell salary.

Premiership opportunity? Elgey and Taylor are playing in an up and coming Titans team. They are every bit as good a chance to win there as here. Same with Cleary at Penrith. Further, they won't have to play behind a powderpuff pack at either of those clubs.

Can't sell that then.

Coach? He'll be retired in two years time. Who then?

Can't sell that.

So what we want is a better player, who'll play for less money and who is available and who doesn't give a shit about who'll be the coach in 3 years time.

Strap yourselves in. It's going to be a wild ride. And if we can't find someone shortly, then we're looking at another 10 years without a premiership.

That's how serious what happened yesterday is.

I am glad we didn't sign him for that money, that is ridiculous money. By the same token I think the usual suspects are greatly underestimating the loss that Hunt will be. Come 2018 we have no decent half to partner Milford in a market that sees spuds like Mbye paid 700k.

I know plenty of Hunt haters won't be able to wipe the shit-eating grins from their faces, it will be interesting to see how much you are smiling in 2018.

Remember when SBW left Rugby League and fans thought the sky was falling in? Or when Wendell left for RU and fans thought we would never see another winger like him in Rugby League?
Or when Burgess left? What are we going to do?!

I relate all this to Hunt leaving the Broncos (yet to be confirmed!)
The sky won't fall in. Broncos will find another Halfback. A young guy gets his chance. That's Rugby League.

There is always another young guy waiting for his shot at the big time. You may not be able to name him, or immediately be able to identify who that young guy is, but he is there, guaranteed.

Just remember people, the grass might look greener on the other side, but if you jump the fence it might turn out to be astroturf....

It's Ata not Ato.

Seriously, you'll sign the wrong bloke if you're not careful.

Another work experience kid.

364 days to go.

Blame zero tackle, not me: http://www.zerotackle.com/rugby-league/players/mafoa-aeata-hingano/

By the way, half of these so called "work experience kids" you're complaining about are already leagues ahead of Hunt in the short kicking & raw skill compartment. But don't let that stop you, I'm loving all your salty posts, it makes me feel warm inside.

Are you surprised by this news (if confirmed) joe ? And any suggestions on who you would like as our HB ?

Well I must admit I'm a bit saddened to see Hunt go but I just get the feeling this could be for the better, he and Milf really do not compliment each other and Wayne knows it, our kicking in general play is really poor.

At 1 Mil a year I think we were right to let him go, he is a good half no doubt but not one that you pay 1 million for.

I'd say Wayne will go hard for Taylor but that will leave us short next year, if Benji goes ok this year I'd say we will see a year of Benji next year while we look for a new half for 2019, unless of course an opportunity presents itself.

I kind of got the feeling this was always on the cards Wayne has been going after another half for a bit now hopefully the karma gained from letting Taylor go gets rewarded is some way.
