How much better do we look now with a REAL dummyhalf

Hunt isn't a bad defender at hooker. Other teams lose their hooker and fullback I.e. Parra) and don't leak so badly in middle. If loss of these guys is a cause (doubt the whole cause but is some of it) then three questions need to be asked.

1. How bad are the other guys to need so much help in defence? Have they not been footballers most of their life...
2. How does a professional team with best coaches not have a strategy to manage structure around injuries?
3. Why would a team have tactics so reliant on one or two players in defence? One injury and season over. Hell even the cowboys can win a couple of finals without JT.

I think these is some loss in structure and more in myth that everyone including players buy into to their own detriment. Defence problems like gaping holes in the middle and failing to number up is largely a lack of attitude and effort combined with panic.

Love Macca to go to a new level and be a premiership winning hooker but after so many years in first grade unlikely but hopefully Macca and coaches have been paying attention to what an attacking hooker can do at Broncs.

Bird might be worth a try? Has a good pass, can make decisions in attack and defence and would be a real threat from dummy half. Big body could handle defence too. He wants to be closer to the action... use Macca for 20 as second hooker (only if speeds up service otherwise would even prefer Thaiday) and then can spend a bit of time at lock as our tackling machine for 30 mins.

Hunt seems to tackle up high a lot more than McCullough does. I'm sure that takes more out of you in tackles and makes you miss more too than just going for the legs. Still managed 40 odd tackles and was our best attacking player.

The only thing Macca does well is the defence.

Maybe leadership, maybe.. But making the forwards around him look good? No...
It's literally like you blokes watch a different player. He's been consistently one of our best players for years now. And everyone commentator and representative coach rates him as second best to Cam Smith. So what I want to know why do you have this agenda against him?! Or is he just another scapegoat for broncoshq members to blame?

Do you actually watch the Broncos play? Or do you just listen to the commentary?

The commentators think EVERY player is a great player. They aren't the best thing to use to back up your comment.

For example, Peter Sterling thinks Ben Hunt is in the top 3 when it comes to kicking.

I watch every game, and McCullough is a massive asset to this team, he was the only player alongside Milford to be re-signed for 4 YEARS! So if wayne Bennett rates him enough to give him a four year contract.. that means you are not watching broncos games.

And yet Bennett wanted Granville...

That says something, don't you think? Macca was re-signed for 4 years because there was no one else to sign and there won't be anyone else to sign in the next 4 years unless a rookie bursts onto the scene.

I would suggest you go back and watch the games again but play close attention to Macca and not what the commentators say.. Pay close attention to how long it takes him to get a pass to the halves, how many times those passes are inaccurate, and how poor he is at decision making. Like when to run and when to pass.

Kicking and defending. The only thing Macca is good at.

And i already know what you'll say next "Wayne Bennett re-signed him because there was no other options" bullshit we had Parcell, and even than you do not re-sign a player because there's no other options for 4 years on decent money. So what now??!!!

Oh come on mate, use your brain. You don't re-sign a player for four fucking years on decent money, just because there is no other options, you sign him for 1-2 years in hope that there will be other options. Wayne Bennett the 7 time winning coach rates him. So you're wrong. GRANVILLEE?! He is a speed bump in defence, all he does he scoop from dummy half we could have had a hooker like that in Nikorima for crying out loud?! Again, use your brain.

Oh I have to point out what's wrong with this comment.

So you think Granville is a speed bump in defence and all he does is scoop the ball from dummy half, and yet Bennett rates him very highly and wanted him.. But that doesn't matter when it comes to Granville..

But when people say Macca is bad, your defence is that Bennett rates him so he HAS to be a great player because the 7 time premiership winning coach rates him.

Do you see what's wrong with this picture? I think you need to re-think things.

By the way, if Bennett had Granville, do you really think he would be on the bench? Not a chance. Which kind of says something about Macca...

Just because Bennett rates him doesn't mean he wants him, he could of kept Granville and left McCullough. You don't re-sign a player for four years if there just a stop gap. A lot changes in 1 season of football. A season ago who would of ever thought we would sign jack bird?!

Bennett said himself that he wanted Granville. He was unhappy that the Broncos let him go.

But you completely missed the point of my post...

But answer this question, do you give a stop gap player a four year contract?

He couldn't have kept Granville because he left before Bennett arrived

The reality is we don't have any good hookers coming through and none of the good ones that we could actually get are coming off contract.

McCullough is definitely not in the 3 of hookers in the game.

I reckon Gillett is worse, he gets slept on pretty much every tackle and should win a penalty every time but doesn't and then gets up glaring at the ref. Yes, you should get a penalty but you didn't, play the ball.

I know right. It's disadvantages your own team. Play the ball then stare.

It does raise the question of what is our plan for a future hooker.. our u20s prospects are bog average at this stage, and nothing in our feeder system hooker wise looks anything above solid. Does anyone know if anyone coming through is highly regarded and showing anything more than being a poor mans macca. Got to be a hooker somewhere out there. Flame on, but could do worse than bring liccha here to develop... he looked ok towards the end of the season, seemed to be freer to run... surely couldn't be fielding any big offers after the roasting he's copped in Sydney media. Was supposed to be one of the next big things until Hasler destroyed him. Bit like Mbye... looked worse the longer Hasler had him.
