you said and i quote "there's a good chance he will become the next Esiesi or Wallace" ...

Firstly Ese'ese hasn't really shown himself to be any more than a bench prop ... secondly at the time they signed for rival clubs neither player had shown that they justify the offers they received from the cellar dwellers, therefore we would never match those offers anyway, since we aren't that foolish.

If Lodge performs next season and the club want to keep him, then they will offer him what they believe he is worth and not a cent more. if another club want to take a risk and offer him significantly more than the Broncos believe he is worth, then you can be guaranteed that the club will let him walk without matching the offer, just like they did with Wallace and Ese'ese (despite wanting to keep both players)
Well let's just hope there aren't any struggling clubs when he comes off contract. I do believe Wallace deserved to be chased by the broncos. A year after leaving he played for Queensland

I thought it said in the article they are working on a one year extension at the moment. To me that means the second year is almost finalized. Maybe I’m reading it wrong

Qcup isn't quality mate . Let him have a full season of first grade before you can call him anthing like quality
If you are saying that the main farm system of the NRL isn't quality, then you are taking a stab at the sport. Of course, it's nowhere near the top grade but it isn't supposed to be, it's only a feeder system for the NRL franchises. Your comment is disrespectful to the players who are trying to achieve their dream and to the sport as a whole.

Under 8s isn't quality, but there are dreams.

just because he hasn't played a full season of first grade doesn't mean he isn't a quality player. of the few games he has played for us in the top grade, he has only played one poor game. and that was only because Bennett asked him to take one for the team and play despite his busted shoulder.

I must be one of only a few that see him as solid and reliable . He is great backup and thats it for me. Yeah we can't have super stars in every position but we can do better imo

He was actually taking one for the team pretty much after a couple of games. Bennett rates him, Nolan rates him, even the last two premiership winning coaches rate him. We dont know if he is the answer long term, but he will get the chance to see if he can be.

I definitely have to disagree with q cup being low quality. The players in this competition are the back up the NRL. Also Lodge main reason he got this contract was because of his form in qcup.

Whoes better on our books currently? Bird wont be playing centre, no matter how much people might like him to, we arent going to pay him so much and have him getting his hands on the ball so little playing as a centre. Shibasaki went backwards last year, Kahu always gets injured there. We wont be recruiting another centre as we need other positions more than that one. I really dont see at this moment in time whos better.

Good post, my man. Not to mention the likes of Jack Reed, Matt Gillette, DCE were discovered in the second tier. I get sick and tired of fans criticising the sport when they should get behind it and comment on it's strong points. The game ain't perfect but name me one sport that is.

I don't get the idea that big-dollar players should only play in certain positions. If they're elite players then it shouldn't matter.

I'm not comparing the two because that would be unfair, but how much would Hodges in his prime command in today's dollars? Even if he was playing exclusively at centre?

So a q cup centre is a better option than an nrl centre. Lodge played q cup because he couldn't have a nrl contract approved. Its a lower grade than nrl is it not !!!
