NEWS Demetriou: Why I can break Broncos' drought

When 56% is considered a good win %, it almost makes you wonder how important a coach even is, and how much may come
down to another variable such as TPA’s or board stability.

Glad someone said this. You need team management that's good at recruitment and retention. Beyond that, there are many technically good coaches who can do the rest.

The best outcome is for WB to stay on in a mentoring and retention role, and pull his head in a little bit.

Walters with his impressive Super League head coaching record, and forgetting to use all his subs in Origin.

Madge barely breaking 50% win rate in the NRL and getting sacked.

Well at least you know what you're getting with those two. Medicority.

I'll take a mediocre premiership like Souths did then.

there are only 2 coaches (who have coached longer than a season) that have win percentages that are in the sixties Bennett (62%) and Bellamy (68%)

I wasn’t trying to bag Madge’s record. I was sincerely asking how important a coach is when the third best winning % isn’t much better than a flip of a coin.

Bellamy’s record is very impressive though.

It's very important when shit coaches are consistently below a coin flip. 10% or more, is all the margin you need to go from a shit team to an excellent team.

Less impressive when you throw the * in though.
And watch it absolutely free-fall in the next few years - it’s going to be glorious!

Biblical even.

Five years with an illegal team has heavily influenced that stat. Bennett is the master and there will never be another like him and replacing him is impossible and not a job that I would want.

Will Bullamy even stay coaching long enough to let his record freefall? My hunch is that he'll cut his losses sooner rather than later.

Tigers meeting with Maguire in Auckland re coaching 2019

It's down to 2, boys - Siebold or JD. All comes down to what Siebold decides. I reckon it's neck and neck between the 2 of them now.

It hasn't really made much difference to that stat.

His win record including the cheating years is 68%. His win record without the cheating years is 67.54%.

66.08% if you include 2005, but that's when the cheating started.

Yes but by delivering a boat in each of the big four's driveways, it prevented them from possibly plying their trade elsewhere. Bellamy's whole career is tainted and really is non applicable when making these comparisons.

Eh, Bellamy is an incredible coach. A cheating piece of shit, but an incredible coach.

With the way Smith jr is developing, and Munster somewhere in the spine, all they really need is a decent half back and the storm should experience business as usual.

Not quite that easy.

Smith jnr is not the force that Smith snr has been for the last decade.

Let's see how Bellamy goes when his onfield generals can't quite deliver his gameplan.

Source?
Or are you guessing?

No source mate and am I just guessing. But I am extremely confident about it. Our coach will either by Siebold or JD, I am absolutely certain of it. Maguire will almost certainly go to the Tigers and Kevvie, well he might get a job as our waterboy if he's lucky.

I couldn’t disagree with you more.

Country origin: 3 years, 1 win, 2 losses, 33%.
NSW origin: 3 years, 2 wins, 7 losses, 22%.

When he doesn’t have a bevy of the best players of this generation at his disposal, his record is rubbish. That is fact.

The cracks are starting to appear at Melbourne too. They should have just stayed on the bus for that GF, never even looked in it against a team with practically only 12 players.

As for Munster, well he is a good player, but this myth about him being a great player is a real stretch. He is also a loose cannon.

Brandon Smith is a good, nuggety runner who hits hard in defence. But so too is Siliva Havili from the Raiders. Not much separates them otherwise. But one thing is for sure, neither of them are Cameron Smith.

I for one am absolutely thrilled Bellamy didn’t end up at the Broncos, not only because he’s proven to be a smug knob who throws tantrums when he doesn’t get what he wants (amongst other unsavoury characteristics), but because his coaching record is largely inflated due to the fact he’s had 4 of the very best players of the modern era at his disposal for close to a decade and 3 of them for close to 15 years. I am also supremely confident they will fall quite a way down the ladder over the next few years.

Time will tell.
