Young broncs in feeder clubs

Good points.

BUT, I think people are pissed because we keep letting players go, mid season no less, and not signing anyone at all.

Seeya Nikorima, Walker (too young, can’t play anyway, but still a half) Boyd. First choice halfback goes down.
Seeya Roberts. Other first choice centre goes down.

I actually don’t mind what we’re doing, but letting players go mid season is just ridiculous. It only serves to weaken us. Added to the fact we aren’t signing anyone else, then we start to see a shortage in our depth when injury strikes, which it has.

By all means, if they aren’t part of the plans moving forward then let them go, just do so in the off season when there is almost no risk of it backfiring.
Roberts was toxic to a young team, I'm glad they let him go. Nikorima wanted to play half back and he wasn't a half back for us, imagine his attitude on the team if we stopped him from getting that multi year deal in the position he wanted. Boyd was NOWHERE NEAR the other half backs. Its why we didn't let o'sullivan go. We have a young team that needs to grow a strong attitude, if we had a seasoned team ready to win this year I'd say stuff them and keep them for depth, but their attitudes are the big things we need to fix and develop at the moment.
Who do we sign to replace a player ranked 36th in our squad? Lol... Every year we whinge about a position/s then the next year we have amazing juniors in that position come through. 2 years ago our forwards weren't big enough and had poor PTBs and not enough talent - enter haas, fifita, sua, carrigan, flegler getting talked about, and we sign lodge in the mean time to hold the Fort. Then it was we have no halves - then we hear whispers about dearden, paix, and the future immortal we've missed in boyd, and we signed a young cover in o'sullivan as they develop. At the moment what are we most concerned about? Our fullback and outside backs in general seem to lack depth right? Who are we hearing whispers about now? Coates, niu, Walsh, and Farnsworth, with perese and kenner signed to fill any gap in the mean time and we also got that young Fijian.
Even hooker, we signed Turpin last year and are looking at paix as a dummy half.
This development and recruitment team is plugging the holes we are whinging about before they are even obvious to people on this forum. That's why I have faith in their choices at the moment. BIG TIME . Will they get a few wrong, probably. But are they getting more right than wrong at the moment. YES. And that's better than most clubs, in fact, I'd say if you asked any other club which club has the best players under 21 at the monent was, all 15 other clubs would say the broncos. So what the hell are we whinging about...

I feel you’ve gone off on a bit of a rant without really understanding what you’re replying to.

As I said, you made good points and I don’t really have a problem with what we are doing, but still, letting players go, mid season, without replacing them leaves us exposed to unnecessary risk.

All these youngsters you mention may end up being the goods, and some are already proving to be. But the reality is, many won’t and in the meantime, we have to have some players who are ready to play now in the event we lose a player or two here or there.

It seems you also don’t recognise that a lot of the players you’ve mentioned we literally cannot play as they’re either too young or not in our top 30. I could be wrong, but my understanding is that we have to apply for special consideration to get them in. I also believe such application is permitted through unexpected injury or other extenuating circumstances, not simply letting players move to other clubs. As I said, I could be wrong, but if I’m not, then what happens?

Another point I think you may be missing is letting players go mid season is shortsighted on our behalf as they can literally line up against us this season - and we all know how well ex-Broncos, particularly those who we deemed not good enough, tend to play against us.

But if none of that drives home my point, maybe this will. Very few other teams let players go without getting something in return. The Storm rarely do, neither do the Roosters. Even this week, Bennett has said Gagai can go if he wants, at the end of the season.

We need to stop being maters and do what’s right for the club sometimes instead of what might be right for the player.

All that said, getting rid of Roberts was absolutely right. He was toxic to the playing group, but I don’t think Kodi would have been.

You've driven home your point well. No need for the rant back. Your point is simple. You want brisbane to have 40 registered players, get a bad reputation with players and player agents by refusing to release them for greater opportunities, and you want a workplace people don't want to be at despite them being surplus to requirements. O'sullivan is needed, we kept him. Tanah boyd wouldnt have got a shot with 4 injuries in the halves.
Youre point can be summed up by using an analogy... You want to eat maccas all the time but you want to complain when you get fat. If we produce a lot of talent then we are going to lose some too. It's the BS behind a salary cap. We don't need tanah boyd this year, we don't need Roberts infecting the team, nikorima didn't want to play the position we wanted him too.... Look at the teams we have released them too, not saying it is a direct result of their signings but have they become powerhouses and gotten stronger since they joined them? No. If we can't beat a team with tanah boyd or even nikorima as their half back then is it really hurting us if we release them anyway, it'd be a clear sign of bigger problems we need to sort....

How have you taken that from what I wrote?

I said releasing players, mid season, is shortsighted and exposes us to risk. I also said that the ultra successful clubs tend not to do it. They don’t have any problems with player disharmony. Probably because they’re too busy winning and being in the running for the premiership every year.

However, you ignore that and somehow go off, again, with hyperbole laden dribble in an attempt to, I can only assume, make yourself feel better or make your point of view seem more valid.

You like analogies, so here’s one for you. Trying to have an educated conversation with you is like sitting on a rocking chair.

So, I give up.

Development players have to be on $75,000 and he trains with the full time squad- it's not exactly a hard luck life for a 18 year old.

Turpin hung around the got promoted to the 30 and his go. Not saying Boyd should do that but it does happen.
60,000 minimum

Was decent with the footy, still looked lost without it. Norths had a field day running down his edge and while he wasn't solely to blame, he didn't perform well under pressure.

He'll get a look in if Shibasaki keeps making costly errors (whether he and Staggs swap sides remains to be seen) but I'd like to see him spend an off-season on his defence and hit the ground running in 2020.

He is getting better every week i see him, but his defence for me would be a major worry. I think he would get shown up majorly in the NRL right now in the centers. He isnt league smart yet ( understandable considering he hasnt got a full year under his belt ). I think it would be a mistake in his development to have him at NRL level this year.

Vudogo making is ISC debut today for Souths Logan?. Listed on the team sheet.
Yes, yes, yes. Was waiting for him, from the reports and the little highlights of him he is intriguing and I have a good feeling about him for some reason (hope probably)

He's about 5"7.
From the three games I've watched and highlights, He looks quick, but struggles massively in tackling/defending. Seems to get lost in defence and targeted, goes missing throughout the game.

I do think he will struggle at Nrl level. Would love to be wrong though.

Came on today with 6 minutes left.

Thanks for the report

Vudogo gets a start today and Niu gets a run at fullback for Souths Logan.
So Niu and Isaako both play for Souths... doesn't bode well for one of them when it comes to a future at fullback

Isaako hasn't been named to play for South's, so he's still away.

I get that but I mean when both are playing
I think it's a good thing. Isaako needs more competition to show he is a true fullback (if he actually is) and Nui will only develop faster if he's the better player. Also that summary from @Lockysillegitimatechild around our development strategies (which someone described as hyperbole dribble) is really worth reading. League recruitment and development is a bit of a jigsaw puzzle except there are more than once pieces for each spot. Finding the best piece is not just about finding the right now as that sort of recruitment strategy is what sees teams win one premiership then slump for 5 years. The club's long term focus at the moment can't be criticised. They are starting to follow Melbourne's lead and look to securing long term players for all positions (by BigPete's definition of long term). Nice post.
