NEWS Boyd Urged to Consider Early Retirement

He was never getting to Roberts so I don't give a **** if he did a handstand. It's ridiculous to go on about it, he couldn't cover the gap. No one could. Not even Go Go Gadget.

Anyone who knows anything about the game would know that if you are letting down your team mates deliberately, or through a lack of effort, the playing group will always turn on that player. You just cant let the team down through poor effort, other players see through it. It should speak volumes that that hasnt happened to Darius at all, he has the backing of his team mates.

Are they not already on the verge of this happening? There is a clear lack of leadership and direction out there. The question should be how long will they put up with it?

not at all ... in fact, he seems like a popular respected captain that people want to play for ...

I am truly lost for words then.

as a fan, you see a very small amount of sample of the captains requirements (i.e. game day)

I suspect that you also make the same mistake many fans make ... and that is mistaking poor form for poor leadership

Why would it be impossible? Its not like its difficult not to read a newspaper, or not watch tv, or get on social media. Its a personal choice. After what he has been through, its probably something that he has been encouraged to steer clear of. I'd say the coaching staff have had some talks with him about his form though, but i doubt they would bring up whats been said outside of the club.
It would be impossible because it is impossible. Surely you understand there is no escaping the incredibly wide net the media casts in 2019?

To digress for a moment; like just about all footballers, when it comes to the media, Boyd is a robot and speaks to them using the same old worn out cliches. You can almost see the players selecting the phrase to use in their heads, like a jukebox selecting the song to play.

They all read from the same script (I’m not saying I blame them either, I probably wouldn’t trust the media as far as I could throw them), save for a minority.

So when Boyd says he is oblivious to it, it’s hard to believe it’s little more than another pre-programmed, selected response. More specifically, it’s the ‘right’ response.

I would certainly consider that Boyd may be unconcerned, unperturbed, unaffected or impervious to it (and good luck to him if he is, shows he has an incredibly strong resolve) - but he would absolutely know a lot of what is being said.

But back to the question - why is it impossible? If for no other reason, the fact he is forced to respond to questions / statements about it during weekly or even daily interviews is a good indication that he would know what is being said.

Apparently your brain cannot allow you to see the OTHER attacking player. Boyd tried to cover Roberts, the pass AND the other attacking player. He was positioned perfectly but like a thousand players before he was beaten by pace and the fact he was virtually stationary.

Yes, someone could( make the tackle ). The other Bronco in the still shot. Roberts was considerably closer to him, the Bronco in question should have taken Roberts while Boyd covered the other guy. All this in a matter of a second or two.

I agree, he was positioned perfectly, which makes the fact he stood motionless as Tyrone Roberts made the break, and then followed that up by taking a knee instead of at least attempting to make up the ground necessary (which at that point, by my estimate was 2.5 metres in the space of 1.5 seconds, give or take)

If you're legitimately telling me you believe it's an inhuman feat to cover 2.5 metres over the space of 1.5 seconds, to attempt a tackle on the man with the ball (which is what Fullbacks are trained to do, not to hedge their bets and then take a knee when he holds on to it), then I don't think there's much left to say..

Not at all, i know football very very well.

You're kind of right. The Bronco closest to Roberts should have got his man. That wasn't Boyd.

It's not impossible to avoid the media and social media. If I didn't want to look at it, I wouldn't have a clue whats going on. You just don't look at it or use it. He would be aware probably when he does interviews of some things, but he could easily have no idea what they are talking about.

Boyd has been pretty great at 6 in defence.
Who knows.. an offseason of finding new shapes and set plays might do him a world of good. I think he could still contribute

This is the view that all the hierarchy and coaching staff seem to have which is why we’ll be cheering on Boyd and Macca for a very long time yet. At the same time we’ll cheer for some ex juniors that’ll be playing for other clubs.
