Nines / Trial Games

Didn't watch the game, but after skimming over the last 25 pages of people losing their shit I've summed the game up as:

Carrigan is a future immortal
Croft is good
Haas is great, except when trying to tackle people
Our backline is one of the worst in the history of the NRL
Darius "Training the house down" Boyd somehow got worse
Seibold is a worse coach than Henjak
Milford lost some weight, but also lost some skill
People would rather Josh McGuire at hooker than McCullough

you missed some ... i'll help:

we're guaranteed the wooden spoon
Cummins is still a shit house referee

Watching the replay now. 5 mins in so far. Boyd must be anxious about coronavirus because every time a titans player comes near him he does everything possible to avoid having to tackle them. We can’t carry this cat in the team.

You need to stock up on hand sanitizer now, because it will definitely sell out. And try to find some masks, not so much to prevent you getting it but you asymptomatically giving it to older people like your parents.

The nearest pharmacy to me was limiting hand sanitizer to 1 per customer. And they were small bottles too.

People hitting panic buttons after fucking trials..
5 tries in 26 minutes!
It’s fair to say the Broncos agree with you - it’s only a fucking trial. May I say though, as a fan and supporter, it’s not unrealistic to expect your side to progressively improve or at least put together a performance, trial or otherwise, that reflects they are heading in that direction

From what I’ve seen lately those responsible are no wiser then they were after the 58 blot drubbing at the hands of Parramatta at their new stadium. Makes me concerned for what North Queensland are going to do to us at their new stadium.
Regardless, if you like it or not- we have coaching problems.

I enjoyed watching Croft play. He has a good football brain, his defence was solid, kicked well and his line break was refreshing to see. For mine he is a cut above any of our half back aspirants. His performance was a real positive in this game. Milf was a major disappointment. He just didn't seem to want to get involved. At the same time, Croft and Milf playing on the same side is a good move.

58-10 ... that is the score from the final trial in 2006, we were not on the right end of thatg scoreline ... 2006, was our last premiership team...

Seibold wasn't the coach for that match ... neither was Griffin or even Henjak.

FTR, a couple of weeks later in round 1 we were demolished by a Cowboys side the missed the finals (36-4 at home, no less)

The takeouts for mine from last night:
- Bird at 1 is our best option at the moment
- There is no chance that Boyd should be anywhere near the squad
- Macca should get use to Redcliffe as his home ground
- Carrigan is our future leader, I get the feeling he will be a one club player and captain after Glenn
- We should let Issako explore his options at other clubs and bring in Niu
- Croft will offer us something positive
- Coates isn't ready for 1st grade
- Fifi and Haas can have an average game, but thankfully they are few and far between
- We will miss Lodge
- Offa looked good, and ran as hard as I can remember seeing him
- Hoppa has to be a genuine chance in the 17
- Milford still isn't a million dollar player

Should we throw up last nights rubbish throughout the year I dare say Seibold will not have a position come the end of 2020.
We didn't look as though we had just had 14 weeks of pre-season

I gave Seibs the benefit of the doubt last season when it came to Boyd and later on Macca, but this year he NEEDS to make the tough decision.

Fans are beginning to revolt. The whole situation can become very toxic.

Boyd i'd have to say was the least of our worries tonight. Plenty of poor performances.
In terms of player performance I think the depth in our middles is very concerning.

Flegler showed poor discipline early and then drops it cold again on tackle 1 on the opposition goal line (I’m hoping second year syndrome isn’t in effect)
Kennedy very poor discipline, I think it was him who gave away the blatant flop before a titans try... can also recall he gave away another blatant penalty when titans were 4th tackle or so, but not doing much, which led to a try after his horrendous 1 on 1 miss on our goal line
Riki looked reasonably solid, but also had moments of poor discipline
Hopoate came on with fire and brimstone, but is that sustainable for a guy that will need to play 40mins with Lodge and Offa out
Bullemor looked similar to Carrigan and would provide a solid workhorse

I haven’t mentioned Offa because he will be out for the first 2 rounds but he will be very important this year with Lodge missing... of most concern is Flegler and Kennedy not putting their hands up to stamp that bench stop, and it’s likely both will be there round 1 and relied on for bigger minutes with Offa out

Yes, I forgot, Offa played really well, another positive, one we really need with Lodge out.

A major negative for me was the team reverting to shitty one out bash and barge when the chips were down which in itself was a negative. Given our start, we ought never to have let that happen. That's on the coach. Warning bells for mine

If Milf cant lift he is in trouble. He isnt taking advantage of having a solid looking halfback beside him. He barely looks like a 350k half right now.
I hope it’s him just looking to get through the trials and ready for rd 1... he looked very disinterested in the game last night, but it was only last week against the cows that he had a try and try assist and looked far more involved.

Just watched the highlights.. Richie Kennar looked like the fastest player on the field when he made the break to put Farnworth away for his try. Was that deceptive, or is Richie actually in shape?

If Boyd is in the team at the first home game I will boo him. I will continue to boo him until either he or the coach removes him from first grade. I have seen enough.

He definitely looks in better shape, I didn’t recognise him at first.

With Croft here now this is last chance saloon for Milford. There are no more excuses for him. If he can’t make it work next to Croft then 2021 needs to be Croft and Dearden in the halves and use Milf’s massive pay cheque to sure up other positions of need.

Not hitting the panic button over this game.

True, but the finger is hovering.

It's not that we lost of course. It's that we clocked off too often at crucial points, especially goal line defence. We talk a lot about leadership on the field, and the signs there are promising with Croft and Carrigan stepping up, however, more than ever we need leadership off the field.

It's well and good to analyse and drive the data, it's another to synthesise that and create a cohesive group which plays for each other. For all of Seibold's talk about building cohesion, I didn't see that on our goal line last night. Key players - like Milford, Haas and Fifita looked lost, or disinterested.

For mine, goal line defence is a measure of a team's heart and soul. Yes, it's just a trial and yes, too early to hit the panic button however, the key take away I have from this game is that Seibold needs to inspire this team. There is more than enough talent here to make the 4. However, you won't find heart and soul in a spreadsheet. I wonder if Seibold has what it takes to inspire this hugely talented team of unguided missiles
