funny that the NRL have an incomplete list for us ... their are only 26 players on that senior squad list and we need 28 registered by 1st march

upon a second review ... the fact that we have exactly 2 spaces less than the minimum required squad numbers is clear evidence that we have signed both Cam Smith and Israel Folau for this season

I'm pretty sure Walsh is under contract until 2022??

Maybe his development deal turns into a top 30 deal so it's not showing??

One thing we could be taking a bit more of an advantage on is the 2yr development deals.

I believe if a player does 2yrs on a development deal then the club gets 10% exemption on salary cap moving forward.

So that would be an automatic 10% leg up we could get on some of these players.

If Piakura was on a development deal last year and then this year we could have an extra 10% of cap to play with. Dogs offer $500k that only represents $450k for us to match... or we could offer $550k and be on even ground with them cap wise

while that can potentially be handy, because if someone stays on a development contract for 2 years you get a salary cap discount (10% i think), the problem with it is that then limits your ability to use the player. you can effectively only use him for the second half of each season.

for example, say we determine Reece Walsh is ready for the NRL this year; we replace Isaako with him as soon as we are able (round 13). Walsh kills it in the NRL, if we were to leave him a a development deal for a second season, we would pretty much have to drop Walsh back to the reserves for the start of next season until round 13 of 2022

Me and others like me get annoyed when our legitimate complaints get shot down or called stupid etc with absolutely nothing coming back the other way aside from schoolyard insults.

Also, I believe in trying to be balanced (even though certainly not always successful to be fair) and if I see something worth commending, I commend it. I also point out what I would like to see the club do and if they do something different but I can see merit in it, I will say that.

Yes, I tend to be negative at times as do others but in fairness to us (me), it isn't all negativity. What often happens though is that I or someone like me post something that is negative and legitimate and then we got shot down but not with reasons, just with insults and stupidity and so of course it gets exacerbated. And no, I'm not going to blindly be positive about something that isn't worth being positive about - ala White, our recruitment and retention team / policy, lack of future planning, giving up on the field, getting smashed and the cherry on top of everything - player options. These are the things I and ones like me complain about. Other things I and people like me try to be positive / realistic about. What is wrong with that?

Also, as a side note, thank you for you well thought out and legitimately valid discussion points, it is so much more enjoyable talking like this.
I understand the frustration and there's always going to be conflict in people's opinions , especially after what's happened over an extended period. But changes are happening and it should be the time people need to start being positive and stop knit picking every little bump in the road .
I don't mean to pick you out because it's definitely not just you , but you are one the one's that have been more vocal about our issues.

Yeah but was thinking more on the future planning side of things.

I'm not sure how development contracts work, but given Suaalli signed as a 17yr old potentially you could pre-empt some of these guys being a big deal and get them on a development deal a bit earlier to get those 2yrs out of the way

Hence saying if Piakura were on a development deal last year then this year would be his 2nd year and we suddenly get the 10% discount right when he's about to play first grade

It's also a possible selling point to the kids as they come through as the 10% discount applies as long as they're with us.

So if Walsh becomes $1m player in a few years time, then that's an extra $100k we can give him compared to anyone else... but it's also a 10% bonus for his career with us

Official NRL squad.

It appears Staggs is missing, both Gamble and Kennar are the new faces on the stage.

Can't wait for big RK to smash it up when he gets his chance. We'll go alright this year.

Khunt and Israel on a double discount deal? Didnt realising hunt was still kicking in Q cup! (live under a rock yes) Could add some starch out wide.

any thoughts on jackson hastings, seems interested in coming back to the nrl?

Edrick Lee has apparently been told he won't be re-signed at the Knights for next year.

Thoughts BHQ?

Love what he did for QLD last year, but we already pay enough people to rehab here.

There are no Cam Munster level superstars on the market. He would be an amazing addition though.

On an unrelated note, I would be asking Donaghy to immediately get on the phone to Billy Slater and ghee up some one on one coaching sessions with Walsh. Paps has spoken about how much his game improved once he started working with Bill.
Nah I can’t see bill doing that

Would be a very underrated signing and if we lose Coates I think he or someone with a similar game style would be a must

I'd love to just have an actual seasoned winger on the flanks.

If he wants big money it'd be a no but if he's not chasing big bucks I think he could be a really smart buy.
A. I don’t think he is a go after the cash bloke and B. He hasn’t really been playing anywhere near Addo-Carrs level and he is the benchmark of wingers on 500k so you’d have to say pretty cheap or at least compared to our other overpaid fuckwits

God no. Way too inconsistent and an injury magnet. We already have enough of those on our books.
