Right, it's just that we HAVE made signings under an acting CEO. We've even apparently managed to put a 3 year deal in front of Kotoni Staggs which is worth anywhere from $2.4-2.8 million bucks.

Are these not big deals? IS this not the club conducting business as usual exactly as it would under a regular CEO?

Sorry, we're a publicly traded company and the acting CEO would be required to have exactly as much authority as the guy he's filling in for when it comes to operating the business. You can't honestly believe Dave Donaghy is sitting around waiting until he gets the keys to his office so that he can instruct on player signings? That's literally what we have an R&R team for and they've been doing their job exactly as normal (which I grant you, is poorly).

Kevin Walters himself indicated they've got plans for an experienced playmaker and that they made a call not to get into a bidding war for Dearden. These are major strategic decisions and Walters is setting the recruitment agenda, so we're functioning the exact same way we would be functioning under a normal CEO.

If you're genuinely prepared to overlook all this and tell me we simply aren't active because we're waiting for Dave Donaghy then I really can't help you.
Absolutely nothing has been established, all we have is what the media is saying and they are guessing.

That's not at all what's been established. The coach, R&R and the CEO all decide on recruitment together.

And there's a big difference between signing small contracts and making big money moves.

You don't actually know that Staggs has been offered a contract yet. There is no way am acting CEO makes big decisions unless they're necessary to keep the business functioning.
In what way is recruitment and retention not necessary to keep a football club operating? The player market does not just sit still until all clubs have their full time CEO in place and even the halfwits on the board at the Broncos would know that.

Do people really believe after the Storm/Donaghy debacle we just decided we'd sit on our hands and wait for DD to walk through the front door before we start to run our football club again?

Do people honestly believe Dave Donaghy doesn't own a phone or know how to use email?

The likes of Hynes and Drinkwater shouldn't even be on the list of potential recruits. We need proven.

Out of the players mentioned, top two should be Reynolds and DCE. I'd take Johnson. With the likes of Farnworth, Coates, Staggs, Niu, Oates, Riki etc, Johnson could form quite a lethal combination with them but I wouldn't exactly be upset if we don't land Johnson either.

If neither of those 3 work out, we should look over in England.
Agree we shouldn't target Hynes, but Drinkwater should be a target and we should be chasing him ASAP. He covers 1 and 6 well enough, which would give us the freedom to recruit a good 1 or 6 and put Drinkwater in the spot we need filled. Would be nice to have someone who can actually create points, and he won't be expensive.

While Johnson is potentially great for the broncos, and in a fan of his, it’s a concern that despite playing some of the best footy of his career the past few years his club wants to half his contract and give him a one year deal. To me this screams injury concerns. Especially considering what happened the last time we paid big money for a Sharks player.

He seems like a good guy but warriors were happy for him to leave and apparently rejected his managers offer for a return. Potential attitude problems?

Teams don’t exactly seem to be liking up for his services from what I can see, which means he may come cheap. A 2 year $650k deal would be worth the risk.

Right, so we're guessing we re-signed Jordan Riki and Brenden Piakura. We're obviously also guessing that we didn't re-sign Tom Dearden, the club's long term Halfback only 5 minutes ago. Someone should probably let the Cowboys know that we were only guessing.

Kevin Walters was obviously also guessing when he explicitly talked about their targeting an experienced playmaker to build their spine around. Poor Kev, even he's in the dark.

There is absolutely no way the Board would be allowing the interim CEO to have the same authority as DD will. They are a caretaker, an honourary position as such to fill the role and meet company requirements. I can gaurantee there is almost a freeze in place except for the bare essentials.

Any decisions currently made would have been a group decision between the acting CEO, relevant committee and the board. Whether or not there is input from DD on the sly we do not know, but once again my original post was due to your implication that the acting CEO would be operating as the CEO normally would which is absolutely not the case.

No people are hoping for major signing news to be broken with our new CEO on board , which shows a great start to a new era under our much anticipated new CEO.
Of course there would be some sort of contact but he wouldn't have his hands in everything atm , why cause more drama than needed.

There would absolutely NOT be contact between the Broncs and Donuts, he's the consummate professional and wouldn't be doing anything at all for the club, ok Mr. Tripp?

If Coates ends up in Melbourne he will have to take unders, they have just re-signed Hughes, about to extend Papa, and will likely have to upgrade Grant. They are also concerned about Munster and the new Brisbane side. Finucane is also off contract and asking big money.

If Bellamy is the draw he’s only going to be there one more year. Coates public comments about loving the club, wanting to stay etc, for what they are worth, came sometime after he had met with Bellamy.

I just don’t see how Melbourne fit him in and I don’t see why they even need him given they could pull a winger out of qcup and they would look like a superstar playing outside that spine.

Titans are the biggest threat imo.
Maybe he wants to go to a club that will pass him the ball. When was the last time you saw a backline move where either winger receives the ball??? The only club that does not utilise the outside backs.

The club want to halve his contract purely because they want to put him next to Reynolds and they cant afford both of them on huge money... so they tried to short change the guy that is actually doing something.

$400k would be more inline with Moylan... SJ is still very much worth $800k or so

I think you can take it as read that he is the only available option out of the halfbacks we have been discussing. Reynolds will go to Cronulla and Moses will stay at Parra.

If SJ wants $800K. but he has no other options and the Sharks are only offering $400K, I wouldn't go past $650K, and that will give us a little extra for a couple of the other spine positions. Two years with an option in the club's favour for a third year @$500K.

But he isn't a halfback he's a 5/8th , we need a 7

You know though that the club favour will be a player option, we can't help ourselves.

Sezer can **** off, but Widdop was reportedly desperate to come back to Aus and apparently wasn't asking for that much money.

We could possibly even get Widdop + SJ for the same money Moses and Reynolds and DCE are asking for.

I would be very happy with that.
