He is one of the best halfbacks in the game, their captain and has given them great service his whole career and they are insulting him with a one year deal. Despite all that he is not kicking stones and still playing at his best while trying to secure his future.

He and Souths are still in negotiation, but at the same time he's very publicly talking to other clubs, or at least the media is making it public. This isn't that far removed from what's happening with Staggs, and what happened with Fifita. Maybe the sticky points are different but it's still about moving and money.

Actually, in Reynold's case it's only about money. In Staggs' case we're being led to believe the club has to sell itself to him because they've failed so miserably to provide decent halves for him to play outside. In a way, Staggs is making the club work on itself, rather than buy him with cash alone.

Because Bennett is behind the scenes doing one thing - recommending not to drop cash on Reynolds beyond a year - while in the media saying another. Who else but the coach would be assessing his value?
