I'm surprised Paix has fallen completely out of favour, he's playing quite well in Queensland Cup.

6 games - 5 tries, 7 linebreaks, 3 try assists, 1 linebreak assist, 2 forced drop outs, 55 running metres per game.

Compared to Turpin's numbers this season (in the NRL)

12 games - 0 tries, 0 linebreaks, 2 try assists, 2 linebreak assists, 0 forced drop outs, 25 running metres per game.
All this says is that Paix has better stats in an easier comp in a better performing team

Paix is also only playing an average of 50-55 mins and making only 20 tackles a game.

Turps is playing 60-80 most weeks and making at least double the tackles against bigger, harder opponents.

Souths are also 4-4 with +67, not 3-9 and -154.

It’s all relative

Hooker for us is becoming a serious issue.

Fullback, every now and then Isaako will show us a bit of brilliance. Hynes has an offer on the table (Cobbo a future talent, even Tesi Nui showed a bit of spark in his limited opportunities), we can work with what we have there.

Halves, Reynolds next year and then Kevvie can try and a few different players until he finds the right player he needs in the 5/8 role.

Hooker, Turpin.. he's a tackling machine but that's all he is, I can't recall a single thing he has done which created some havoc for the opposition with ball in hand. He may be a leader amongst the group and consistently makes 50 tackles a week but we are going need to a bit more from dummy half behind a pack consisting of the likes of Payne Haas. I know it's out of the realm of possibility but imagine someone like Damien Cook coming out of dummy half after Payne Haas makes one of those half breaks, absolute terror for the opposition, we don't get that from Turpin, we don't get anything actually.
There’s some good potential options in Grant, Smith, Hodgson, or Koriosai on the horizon, but if we want a realistic cheap option for a bit of spark I’d be looking at bringing Granville back as a bench option for 1-2 years.

I considered that, but would prefer Matt Parcell. He's a very similar style to Damien Cook and could gel nicely with Reynolds. Obviously a former Bronco too.

I think if we wanted a cheap fullback that plays like an experienced one.. I'd sign Kurtis Rowe, he'd at least be good depth. Assuming we miss out on Hynes.

Green on selecting Su'a for Origin despite being dumped by Souths. Sounds like Milford. If this is true, no way should we go near him:

"He wasn't picked for Souths for his talent or ability. It was more about his effort and attitude. They are things in his control so I am pretty confident he can find the motivation to fix those. It is such a big game for us so I am pretty confident about his selection. He's done it before. We have to make sure he brings that aggression. But considering what he has been through those are the good calls to make as a coach."

Are we sure Su'a wasn't dropped because he's planning to sign with Broncos? I don't know if this point has been raised but it could be possible. Bennett dropped Hodges when he signed with Roosters so..

The fact is that Su'a has never had a high work rate.. He needs to fix the reasons for that. He hangs back all game and just looks for a good shot to put on someone and thinks that's his job. He needs to be making more runs and more tackles if he wants to be an elite backrower.

Yeah still don’t rate Su’A. As others have said, doesn’t make high numbers in runs and tackles and doesn’t have the attacking stats to compensate

They certainly never picked Turncoates on the strength of his defensive work or his carries off of our goal line. Which is a major concern in an origin game.
Yeh, honestly, I do wonder if Green has even watched Coates this year. He started the season rather well, but since the chatter about signing with Storm and then doing so, he’s gone off the boil deluxe.

And that’s not even considering his preexisting deficiency where he somehow forgets he’s a winger and thinks he should be defending in the middle with Turps.

Sure, he might be able to out-jump the Penrith midget, but conversely, the midget is very hard to stop when someone is standing directly in front of him. With Coates being (at least) 15m in off his wing, old mate will have a saloon passage to the tryline.

We should get murdered on paper, there at least half a dozen blokes in that squad who would be flat out making the run on team in a top 4 NRL side.
On a quick glance the NSW team is full of match winners for the modern rules. How many fullbacks did they pick.. 4?

not long before the team was announced, Coates was actually quoted in the CM as saying his form wasn't up to origin standard

there is a first time for everything

Fox Sports have dropped how much we are supposedly offering Hynes from the 500k a season mark to the 333k a season mark. they wanted to make the Sharks the favourites, saying our offer of $1 million over 3 years won't be enough given Hynes recent form
