OFFICIAL LOL. We have a new recruit, and you'll never guess who it is

Ben Ikin:

“Billy won’t be coming here this year but he will definitely be at the Broncos in 2022. It will be a one-year deal. Where he plays is to be determined by the coach, but Billy has great utility value so I’d say that’s where he will start. Depending on how Billy plays and how the team performs and how we go with injuries, things could evolve across the season.”

Billy walters

Surprise!

Madge:

“Billy won’t be here next year. He has fitted in really well, he is a real professional and a great young guy. I wish him well.”

Scott Sattler:

“Billy might get some flak, but it comes with having a famous footballing surname when you are the son of a legend. Kevvie might get some criticism for signing his son, but the only way to answer it is for Billy to play good football. If he plays well for the Broncos, it won’t matter if his dad is the coach. It’s a good signing. The utility role is crucial in today’s game and Billy will fit into the Broncos well, he’s a handy player with an infectious personality.”

The age of debuting isn’t so much the issue, it’s that since he debuted he hasn’t exactly lit the world on fire. As already noted, we have other options for a utility so I don’t think we needed to sign the coach’s son. I don’t care what we spent on him and whether it was some bargain price, it’s still money we could have spent elsewhere on better options and would have if not for his last name.
Such as who?

We dont generally make that good use of a utility really. Maybe that will change next year.

Do tell oh wise one?

Hence the small contract for a year, 1 fucking year!! Is it so hard to understand that this is a stop gap depth signing or is it beyond your comprehension.
This is obviously speculation but the 1 year deal is just as likely to be due to this deal being obviously pushed for by Kev since he started - the 1 year deal placates Kev by not canning all the work he’s put into getting Billy to the club while committing the absolute minimal amount of resources the club can to the whole ordeal.

This x 1000. The coach/son thing aside (it’s too stupid to comment on), how good can he be to debut at 25 and then play 11 games since? Please.

How good can Gamble be to be at two clubs and have played one NRL game before this year and playing BRL in 2016? Or Hynes to be at two ISC before his NRL debut?

I'd beg to differ. Like i said before, i'd prefer to see him in the 13 shirt, but hes certainly more comfortable there than people putting him in the same bracket as Glenn at hooker. If we needed an option in a game for one of our current regular 17 to shift to 9 if Turpin got injured, it would be Kobe everytime. I dont think i've suggested in any of my comments he should be our hooker, but he's capable of playing there and doing a decent job.

I think if you saw him play 9 in a NRL game you’d change your mind. There is a reason Norths, Souths ISC and Broncos have never played him there.

I dont think i would change my mind really because i'm not talking about him becoming our hooker, i'm only talking about him covering there if Turpin gets an injury. I wouldnt want Kobe to be playing as a utility. I cant see anyone in our 17 tomorrow for example thats a better fit. He's got a solid background as a hooker compared to Glenn as was mentioned. My own preference would be to run with a proper utility so we dont have to resort to switch blokes like Kobe, but hes the best option if we dont run with one imo.

Speculation/ agenda driven, just tell it how it is.

maybe this means more time in isc next year for paix? would he benefit from that?

Maybe, if they are planning to run Paix in ISC then Billy makes a lot more sense i guess.

I think i'd actually prefer Walters as our bench utility over Paix next year.

and not because i think Billy is better than Paix, but more that I think Paix is clearly our next cab off the rank hooker, i think it is more beneficial for him to be playing big minutes in the ISC, rather than 10 mins a game in the NRL to give Turps a spell.

IMO, playing big minutes in the ISC will also better position Paix to overtake Turpin in the pecking order

What agenda?? You’re speculating that he was only ever meant as a 1 year stop gap depth option. What’s your agenda?
Like I said in my earlier post no one knows what their plan is , so it's all speculation. The problem i have is with people bagging the signing when they're clueless to the situation.
As for your agenda it's always Kevvie's fault or his wrong doing, you've got the pitch fork out ready to use .

My problem is this signing has been openly discussed to the media since Walters took the job, it was a foregone conclusion. This signing screams he was a “must have” in kevvie’s eyes, not a great look imo. He isn’t just some handy depth option that came our way by clever bidding or anything. I will not bat an eyelid if he is shown favouritism when it comes to team selections too.

First time he threw a pass from dummy half and a forward got killed; you’d change your mind.

Are you saying in the event of an injury you would prefer Glenn or someone else in the 17 (assuming Paix isn't playing) at hooker than Hetherington? I think that is what Wolfie is getting at.

No it wasn't , he said he was a hooker/ utility and not a 13 option.
