NEWS Milford Discussion Thread

A motivated and fit Milford next to Reynolds would be truly incredible but who knows how that would’ve panned out. Wish he showed any glimpse of the form he did at the end of the season earlier on and maybe justified a cheap extension to have a shot next to Reynolds.

Its his own fault really. He didnt deserve another chance here.

I dunno, i reckon there are a hell of a lot of people who just rock up at their jobs, do what they have to do and go home. There probably isnt really a good real world job comparison. Probably like most jobs, the ones who do that little bit more move further up the ladder while the ones who just turn up stay where they are. Milf is clearly the latter. He's got no drive at all to be the best.

His smoking and his fondness for a certain soft drink isnt really a bad attitude problem as such ( although i can see why people think thats an attitude thing ). I think its not smart and he could be more professional. Again though, i think thats more with him having a lack of drive to be the best. Him just doing enough to get by isnt anywhere near good enough.

WTF ?
Milford smokes cigarettes ??? Does he think he`s channelling his inner King Wally ?

You’d think he’d at least not smoke durries and be at 30% body fat. That’s a bad attitude.

I’m not sure what the real world job equivalent would be but something like being a hairdresser and not bothering learning any new styles as trends change, or rocking up at the work site hung over.
Unfortunately seen a couple players smoking durries this off season. I just don't understand it when your career literally and almost entirely depends upon your fitness levels lol. This ain't the 1980s, a player who gets short of breath in the 79th minute gets exposed. If not the 1st week, teams will watch video and pick it up later on...

I smoked when I was younger and while it obviously impacted my fitness I was still quite fit, as were some of my mates who smoked and played sport but by the time I was about 25 onwards smoking started having a massive detrimental impact on my fitness levels (and energy levels in general). Which ultimately motivated me to stop.

edit: motivated me to stop smoking not stop fitness lol

I know Hodgo smoked, at least when he was on the turps earlier on in his career. But there should be a bit of a generation gap there, us older blokes grew up surrounded by smokes and so many role models were smokers, but for these younger NRL players surely they weren't brought up in the same type of environment were they?

Who are the smokers?

I know Thaiday was a smoker but who else?

There are so so many current NRL players and coaches that enjoy a ciggy when having a few beers. I personally have nothing wrong with it. Most don't touch them very often except for a celebration.

I just don't get how these blokes have the world at their feet for about a decade and can't just look after themselves. I shouldn't be surprised but I'd be far less inclined to sign these types of people in the future. This isn't some office job, it's a short career where they make as much money as they can while they can. Professional athletes my ass. Part timers at best.

.....and in particular, considering the exorbitant amounts of money they want per season.....

its a bit of a joke the way some of these blokes conduct themselves.

Agree, and not only are the not working in an office, they are professional sportspeople playing at the highest levels of the sport.

You could make parallels with Kyrgios and his unapologetic career of coasting off talent alone (and being paid good money to do so) but at least with Nick it's a solo sport, even if he's representing Australia he's there for himself (doubles notwithstanding). In League it's a team sport, and your teammates need to trust that you're doing everything you can to be the best player you are and bust your guts for a win. I don't think anyone in our squad would have that kind of faith in Milford.

It’s a bit weird. You can’t get life insurance for a back condition you may or may not get in the future (office workers) but players get paid out of their contracts for medical retirements despite smoking.

Tough one to think about tbh

Can we move this thread out of Brisbane Broncos Talk and into Rugby League Talk?

Milford, along with his dart smoking, McDonald’s eating, Coke drinking and late night gambling before a knockout final is not our player anymore.

pssst....don't forget

an "alleged" wife basher, as well. 😉

So....story in the CM this morning about how it looks to be imminent that Milford will be playing in the NRL in 2022. All concerned appear confident that most(if not all of the charges) will be dropped

CCTV footage from the night in question shows two women attacking Milford with a volley of punches. The former Broncos five-eighth does not retaliate, instead venting his anger by picking up a bin and throwing it, damaging a nearby vehicle.

It'll be interesting to see how he goes at the Knights.

If that's what happened there needs to serious questions asked of the prosecution. He's a saint if that was his only reaction

To throw a bin at someone else’s car?
