Yeah we were pretty clunky out wide but dominated through the middle. Defiantly room for improvement but the fundamentals were better than they’ve been for a long time.

Agreed about Cobbo, he’s had a rough start to the year. Could probably use a bit more time in cup but I think he’ll come good if you back him. On Isaako, I think he had by far his best game in a long time - nothing flashy but did a lot of the dirty work he has been criticised for not doing.
I'm leaving Selwyn out on the wing until his balls fully drop.

Courier mail ratings for the players are laughable. They gave Isaako a 6, but Kotoni a 7.5 along with Carrigan. He wasnt even close to playing as well as Patty. Cobbo was our best according to them!

It's the Courier Fail though @Wolfie . It's the home of the conservative buzz cut! What do you expect?

Cobbo had some highlights, that's generally how those ratings are done, get the ratings to match the 3min clip attached to the article. Cobbo made way too many errors, and was caught out of position too often to be considered for best on ground.

I didn't really notice Herbie much in attack, other than that crafty grubber/air swing. His defence was pretty good, I thought. Souths managed to keep both centres fairly quiet. If I had to pick a standout centre is was Capewell by a mile.

Everyone is talking about Selwyn today, no surprise. If Jamayne had made that many errors he'd already be on the bus to Redcliffe. Not that he was to blame for at least half of them. They'll need to work on their combinations out there.
it was their first game of the season and Cobbo and Staggs haven't played together to often, Herbie didn't play any trials.
maybe you should lower your expectations and just be happy that they didn't lose by 30 like you predicted.

How good does it feel to wake up in the morning after a win! Could get used to this.

Forward were brilliant. Halves were great and makes me feel a lot better about what might happen if Reynolds were to be out at all during the season.

Turpin was great in defence but as usual, offered little in attack. I’d be interested to see how different we would look with Paix in the side. He does offer more in attack, but does he have the motor and defensive resolve?

Outside backs were clunky and definitely have some work to do there.

Kennedy could do an Ashton Sims and Huge would still defend him and have him on the shortlist for MOTM.

Ashton may not have been paid well enough to catch the ball either...

I'm not sure about Paix starting but we need some more creativity in the nine. Perhaps shift Walters to nine, Paix fourteen. With Kobe back at lock I don't think we'd lose much defensively. Bring Paix on after thirty, shift Billy to lock to give Kobe a breather.

The things I like the most were those 1 percenters.

We blocked our kickers!!!! Unbelievable!!!

Slow/clumsy peeling off of a tackled player (thanks for making this part of the game storm) - and picked our moments to make this even slower! (Eg after they made a semi break, in our 20m, our defence was catching up)

We made sure we tackled and held onto their kicker post kick

Blocked our wingers and fullbacks

Capewell being back for the FG goal "just in case".

Let's hope we can keep these type of things up....
Aye I was impressed by those too. One I didn't notice until watching the Kelly try a few times over was Farnworth absolutely screaming in from the left in support in case Kelly was run down. Deadset rocketboots on and he only let up when it was clear Kelly was in for all money. Regardless of whether his best position is centre, wing, Redcliffe or Centrelink, that's 100% the effort and attitude I want to see.

Unintentionally or not, he didn't clear the ruck then did he. Gave away a 6 again. On the last. Let the record show. Only someone like you would die on a hill like this.

Mate I have gone back and watched the replay as well and @Huge is right on the second one. Kennedy did not give away a six again for not clearing the ruck at the 38th minute. In the play leading up to that he made unintentional contact with the ball giving rise to Souths getting a tackle count restart.

He was responsible for placing us under pressure at the 37th minute by giving away possession with a penalty for playing the ball incorrectly on our 30 metre line. But that was a lazy mistake that a number of others made. I rated his game as solid.

A few things to like about last night, gutsy win without Reynolds and our normal points creator in Staggs had a quiet night. Haas back to his best straight away, few nice offloads with minimal risk.

Left edge defence was really good. Billy did a good job defensively combining with that side. Capewell obviously a huge boost.
Carrigan showing he is a prop, and a good one. He ran hard and made big inroads.

Kennedy....How does he keep getting picked?
Because KW knows more than you do. Don't worry, I'm sure all you great judges will be vindicated by the end of the year.

Yeah, written by a bloke called "Greg Davis." Anyone heard of him before?

But look at our own Player Ratings thread. Everyone saw something different because we played like a team in defence and no one really let us down. Selwyn got everyone to their feet when he got the ball - because it looked like a try was on - but he bumbled it nearly every time (not necessarily his fault).

And as ever, Payne got the accolades for his workrate, but in all honesty, his talent is being wasted. Patty played a solid front rowers game at lock. Maybe his personal best. Riki was also solid, chucked a couple of good passes, probably a tad under rated. Didn't have much of a problem with anyone, but all had room for improvement.

Kevvy will be happy with our defence, and that was his stated priority. We can't take all the credit though, Souths helped us out by blundering. Maybe because of the pressure they weren't expecting.

If you can ignore the cohesive defence, which saved us from losing, and look to the attack, which won the game, the first and most of the second, was almost entirely Albert and Kurt. They're my men of the match.

No one argues he’s solid but @Huge carries on like he’s an immortal in waiting. Kennedy is good depth and there is nothing wrong with that.

Ffs, what exactly did he do wrong? Aside from a lazy ptb? Averaged over 10 m a carry, made his tackles...what more do you want from our lowest paid player?

Cobbs screwed up a number of times and that was disappointing but he kept turning up. I love that he doesn’t drop his head and defensively, he’s strong. Stopping Mansour in his tracks a number of times is no mean feat.
