OFFICIAL Herbie ***** off to the dolphins

damn this one hurts. Said before but if having to choose i would pick herbie over cobbo.

I know cobbo has a higher ceiling but i just dont know if he strikes me as a guy who will work hard and do whatever it takes to win a football game. Soon as things dont go cobbo way he seems to pack it in.

We been down this path before with players like him hugely gifted athletes but just dont have the mental toughness to truly be great. We need hard workers to turn this club around not physically gifted kids who dont want to put in the hard yards.

Just sucks that we are loosing these players we blood into nrl right as they come at there peak for another club to claim the benefits. I know this is on the club to make it a place players want to be at but i was hoping with the arrival of ikin and DD these sort of things would stop happening.

massive blow for us think this will hurt more then some realise. now we will have to blood marinar and have another rookie for a few years making rookie mistakes until he comes at his peak and potentially leave as well.

You are right, losing Verrills would definitely cover B.Smith and Young's additions plus Crichton, Radley and Lodge extending. Cordner and Friend retired a while ago so I guess we can also count Ricketson and Fittler's money too.
I get your point, and I hate roosters with every ounce of my being. But Cordner was NSW and Aus captain, wouldn't have been cheap, Friend easily on 750k, given the increase in the cap as well. And don't forget the life after football clause which is a farce. The point is they have allure outside of football where as clubs like the Broncos, Storm, Souths and Panthers prefer to rely on the football side of things, and unfortunately for the Broncos, the players don't think Walters can coach, and Reynolds is running the show.

Of course you keep playing him because making the finals is far more important than caring that he won't be here next year. Both for the wellbeing of the fans and the wellbeing of the club.
If at some point if the finals become out of reach.....do you change your thinking?

The well-being of the club does depend on its future players as well as its present/past.

Yeah if the Broncos are not in the running for a finals spot then it's probably fine...but if the Broncos are missing the finals again this year, there are probably more players thay need to be dropped too.
I just think the Broncos need to start being a good team again, which will help improve player retention and signings as well. So having the best team out there will help the club in the long run.

Except he won’t be coached by Wayne. Woolf will coach from 2025 and will already hand off most things anyway by mid 2024.
Wayne will be about and will have just as much affect on the playing group.

I dont reckon he was ever promised the position, but i do think he was promised a crack at playing there.
If I was Herbie I'd be pretty disappointed that I was never given a crack there in the whole time he has been at the Broncos.
Had Issako stinking it up, got named there but shifted to the wing when Coates got injured and Tesi came in.
Had Cobbo a guy who shows us late to training, too tired to play, bags the coach getting a crack before him.
Even guys who dont even have a NRL contract in Sailor getting a crack and Martin who was a 6.
Didn't even get a run on his preferred side of the field as a centre when Staggs was injured or down on form.
So if he was ever promised a crack in his preferred positions he never got a chance at either.

Can only assume (and hope) he had already let them know he was leaving before the trials so they didn’t bother

Completely agree
