The NRL will have to implement something about this transfer fee thing in the future, if they want a salary cap competition it's not really fair that a club like us can swing our big financial dick around and get these sort of things over the line.

That is of course if it's outside of the cap.

For 4 months to have a crack at winning a premiership. There’d be wingers who would play 80 at prop to get this opportunity. It’s about 15 games for **** sakes if he isn’t willing to do that for a crack at a prem then the Titans is perfect for him.

I would argue everyone agrees but these are the (very, very, very stupid) rules and there is no point playing nice in this comp, it gets you nowhere. If we can take advantage of it, we should just as others have taken advantage of us at out lowest.

The other positive is that generally, once the Broncos benefit from something, rules then change and if we can see the back of this one, I think almost everyone would be happy.

I honestly don't see a problem with transfer fees and i don't believe it should count in the cap either (which it doesn't).

What I did have a problem with, and still do, is players wanting out of their contracts and the club getting nothing in return. This way, if the player wants out and it isn't mutually agreeable, then at least the club can get a financial benefit in the way of a transfer fee (like we did with Karl).

I think early releases should have the following rules, which basically they seem to currently;
1. Player can't leave for more money. New contract needs to be for the same or less.
2. Club releasing the player should get a benefit (either player swap or a transfer fee).

If a player wishes to relocate to be closer to family or whatever it may be, i see no problem in their existing club imposing a transfer fee for the ealry release. Once that fee is paid, the player should be able to sign for the same, or less money.

In the case of Ben Hunt, if the rumours are true and he is only signing with us for 3-4 months, if we are paying a sizeable transfer fee to the Dragons for the early release, I think it should be proportionate. E.g. If the fee is $500,000, we should pay $100,000 of it and the Titans pay $400,000 for it as they get him for 2 seasons and we get him for less than 1/2 a season.

It’s utter bullshit and I despise it, but that’s the cesspit of a competition we’ve signed up for and if the other clubs can seemingly stack their sides at will going into the finals then I see no reason for us not to do it too out of some sense of moral high ground.

The people running the game have shown us quite clearly that morals and fairness have no place in the NRL, so we’re wasting our time if we’re trying to abide by those concepts.

I do actually agree that the short term stint deals are a bit ridiculous. Wouldn't mind contract terms needing to be a minimum term of remaining season + next season.

Allowing this to happen ruins the fabric of the competition, and we're part of that. Just hope everyone realises how hypocritical they are if the signing comes off.

The saddest part in all this is that Ben Hunt getting a mid season transfer to a Top 4 club isn’t remotely shocking at all, and the only even slightly shocking part about it is that it’s happening and it doesn’t somehow directly benefit the Roosters, Panthers or Souths.

Someone at the NRL really dropped the ball there, so I’d expect Uncle Nick will be on the phone to head office blowing up Deluxe at this very moment.
