I’d say Staggs will also be offered a reduced deal or leave too as Arthars and Mariner will likely get those spots and hope Leota comes on too.
Leota is probably a year and half behind Mariner imo(even though they play different positions it will likely be a head to head if Cobbo makes the expected move to right Centre), undoubtedly we are going to lose one of them.

Agreed but I’m glad Mariner is locked up, he has superstar written all over him.

If the club offered him 1m and won't budge, he's absolutely right to reject it and go to market to either get a fair deal, or leverage those offers to get the club to budge. He's worth more than that under the increased salary cap.

If I was his manager I'd advise him to do exactly the same thing. Under the new salary cap, his real value is probably close to 1.25 but I think he'll settle for 1.1m or 1.15m which is what someone like Tino is actually contracted for in 2025 which Haas will be signing for. JFH and Addin Fonua Blake would also be on the 1.1m with the increased cap.

Haas has every right to chase market value which 1m isn't. The club has every right to lowball. I hope they find an agreement in the middle of those two offers.

Yes and no. I mean, he's absolutely OK to chase the money, other clubs will most certainly offer more than the Broncos. That's not my issue.

My issue is him saying he loves the club, wants to win a premiership, but wants his market value. A club who pays above market value won't be in the frame for a premiership. Out of the clubs which are, the whole package we can offer (living in Bris, close to family, etc) will be on par with whatever else is offered.
So if he's serious about loving the club and wanting a premiership, the smart money surely says to resign with the Broncos. If that's on $1M a year, then so be it. The less he takes, the more there is to keep/put other quality players around him.

I would certainly hope his expectations and the club's position have both been articulated clearly to the other party. If there's $100k in it, then we should pay the man. If he's chasing what a struggling club will pay...then he's not serious with what he says and the club should absolutely not come to the party.

It's all spitballing at the end of the day, none of us really know if we're not party to the negotiations. I hope he re-signs for a price we can all wear, without too much delay or disruption to the season.

I'm just fucking annoyed how this has all come out publicly AGAIN, at a critical time of our season AGAIN. It's bullshit. His agent doesn't need to toot his trumpet and announce to all and sundry that he's open season on Nov 1. Immensely frustrating how it's playing out - AGAIN.

While i am with you on Staggs getting the hard word I’m not convinced Arthars is the answer

I hear ya and I share those concerns but you can’t have a team of superstars unless you are the Roosters, so you need to save somewhere.

That’s probably being too cheap though lol

1. Walsh
2. Oates
3. Cobbo
4. Mariner
5.

Got to be plenty of good value for money wingers that are faster than Arthars

Probably but Arthars is a good winger and with Mariner, Cobbo, Mam and Walsh, more speed isn’t the be all and end all. But that backline above is what I’d be looking at and it doesn’t bode well for Staggs unless Mariner or Cobbo stay / become wings for a while.

I recall when Mariner was first coming through it was actually his hitting in defence that impressed me the most... I think it was in one of his first trial matches.

Fair effort for someone who was probably 17/18 playing against men in a trial and holding his own physically.

Arthars has a good mentality and very good on the catches, I think he can go another level entirely if he adds about 5kg though, it might not look it but he is the same height as Herbie.

I don’t know, he just kind of reminds me of Jordan Kahu. Fairly reliable and not a bad option but nothing to get excited about.

He feels like a throwback to the outside back dark ages that existed at the club in the years post-Yow Yeh where our production line was terrible. He wouldn’t look out of place amongst Kahu, Beale, Copley, Hoffman, Maranta, Reed*, Winterstein

his biggest issue is just he can't punch through the line but I think his mentality is a bit higher then those players, he is a bit thin for his body though something that he can fix.

He's had a few games this year where he's just burst through the line from nothing... think he did it in the first game against dolphins 🤔🤔

He's had 2 or 3 others as well.

I think the comparison to Herbie could be warranted, he just doesn't have the same insane work rate he does.

Herbie looks slight, but is so strong and gets through the tacklers to find his front. Jesse doesn't necessarily get monstered in tackles like Coates does, he just doesn't seem to take as many hitups or maybe doesn't have the same footwork as Herbie which gets him in between tacklers and on his front.

Im not sure he can fix it much more to be honest. He looks huge compared to when he first left us. I don’t think there’s much more he could realistically pack on. He must be 8kg or more heavier than his previous season with us

with gaps, but the post contact is what I'm talking about, Herbie has been pulling near Haas numbers and Oates last year as well.

He is 95kg and Herbie is 105kg both same height, from a physics standpoint it's what is the difference I think, Herbie does alot more runs as well, but there is a reason for that because he doesn't pass as much either.

Hooper, Buzz, Tallis and Anasta on one panel. The 360 brain's trust is something special this year. The crazy part is buzz is easily the most sensible and trustworthy person on that panel.

Tallis has proven himself to be ok when he doesn’t have an agenda. The other two though are just pathetic, no idea how they are in such public positions and embarrass themselves so easily.
