Why? In terms of their individual performances, I think Pearson was more consistent than Issako. You can still stand up and show what you are made of in a less effective team. I'm not saying Issako was poor at ISC level either, I just think Pearsons level of performance was better overall.

In the scheme of things it probably doesnt really matter anyway as that was last year, and they are both competing for a place based on what the do from now on. I'd still personally take Issako over Pearson due to his rollicking, but I do think Wayne will give Pearson first crack at the wing spot.

Issako had a real purple patch at the start of the year which gave his figures a nice boost then for the rest of the year. But like I said I think seven less games makes it hard to say one was better than the other.

Isaako was fullback of the year in the ISC team. But he tended to have huge games of 250m or as little as 31.

IMO it is easier to be a winger in a good team than a shit one. How much easier do you think it is finishing a backline move for the Storm than it is for the knights or the tigers?
 
For me, Pearson looks like his centre of gravity is too high when he runs. He always looks as though NRL-level defence will push him back 10 metres, rather than him gaining 10 metres. At best he looks mediocre at NRL level. Isaako plays like someone who could excel at NRL.

I could agree with that, Isaako looks very strong through the hips. Not saying that running style means everything but after watching him in that trial on the weekend I think I'd be happier with Isaako in the team than Pearson. Pearson is quicker when in the clear but Isaako looks better after contact.

You sound like a channel 9 commentator with that kind of logic... Nofo is an excellent winger without scoring tries because he has a lot of involvement. Raiders missed the 8 but Rapana is easily the best winger in the game.

Winterstein is in a high performing team but would he be considered anywhere near the top in terms of wingers. A winger's game is not solely based on the number of tries.

I have Isaako in front at the moment, but only because I worry about the loss of workload from Moga and Oates. That is a huge amount of hit ups (probably in the region of 25-35 a game) which now have to be shared and whilst I like the look of Pearson I just don't see him being a high workload winger. Unlike Isaako who I think had 12-15 hit ups in his game last year albeit from fullback. He does look like a player that loves his hands on the ball though.

Maranta was a winger in a good team. Didn't help him much. Still have to be able to do the job.

The amount of games though isnt that important ( unless its only a few games we are talking about ) when you are talking about the level of performance and consistency of performance. You have pretty much said Issako was up and down to a certain degree. I feel Pearsons level of performance was more consistent, which is why I feel Wayne will go with him. He likes consistency. But like i said, id go with Issako as i feel his goalkicking gives us an extra dimension.

I wouldn't go that far, Maranta is the definition of mediocre backs but he managed 15 tries in 2015 from 20 games when the side was arguably at it's best since Lockyer's last season, it's quite possible for average to poor players to look/player somewhat better when a side is traveling so well, when the side wasn't traveling so well in other seasons you saw the real Maranta at his worst (As funny as that might sound).

Pearson had a good debut match in the NRL, I think too many people jumped on the bandwagon too early with regards to it, after more first grade games he ranged from pretty average to absolute mediocre so consistency argument isn't so clear cut. That is by no means an absolute prediction of his future career, but with more competition coming through now I don't see his position chances in first grade as unchallenged as previous.

I also think he could take the punts on line drop outs. He strikes it very well. Both wingers can convert tries, slot drop kicks and fill in at fullback mid game if needed. Gives more merit to Oates on the Bench

I just don't think these days its true its easier to be a winger even in a good side, but your argument is probably relative to any position. If you play in a good team, your job is generally easier.

I still feel last year Pearson did his job for Redcliffe better and more consistently than Issako for south's. We have to judge them on what they do now though.

Not at NRL level the consistency argument isnt. But I was talking more about ISC.
 
SAM Tagataese will lead a young Broncos’ squad in a trial against Intrust Super Cup club Wynnum Seagulls on Saturday night.

Tagataese was brought into the Broncos’ squad to add some size and experience during the pre-season.

The 2016 premiership winner with the Sharks will do just that on Saturday as he partners teenager Payne Haas in the front row.

Salesi Funaki will face his affiliate club teammates as he forms a back row with former Cowboys’ NRL player Patrick Mago and Patrick Carrigan.

Shaun Nona will control the halves while Moses Pangai will be in the centres with the exciting Gehamat Shibasaki.

The match will get underway at Kougari Oval at 7pm on Saturday night.
