That's your prerogative, just like it was Hass'. But you and I both know that if you tell your HR teams to bugger off, there will be consequences. And you lawyer wouldn't be able to do a thing about it.

This penalty would have been more appropriate, maybe even a one game suspension, but like has been mentioned in this thread it sounds like the NRL were going to suspend him if the club didn’t step in.

I hope the integrity unit are still deciding what to do with JDB and Walker.

That's the only thing we don't really know. If HR called and said we need to talk and he said "No **** you and **** Greenberg" then fair enough he probably deserves a punishment and it's probably even fair! If it's simply a case of him not wanting to talk AKA he wouldn't say much/anything it's absurdly over the top.
 
My only issue with this whole saga is putting Haas offside with the club when he is next due to come off contract. By that point he will probably be the hottest property forward on the market, and suddenly he has these big money offers flying at him and a pretty open opportunity to smack the club back for punishing him for having his families back.
 
Its pretty clear cut, the right decision has been made. Not cooperating with IU sets a slippery slope of a standard. All players contracted have an image to uphold as they represent the club. If you have done nothing wrong, there is nothing to hide and there is ZERO reason to not communicate with IU.

If the maturity is not there to understand this, this suspension and fine serves its purpose. Family, friends, best mate, his responsibility is not to cover their asses while ignoring the standards of the game and club that he is employed to uphold.
 
Semi final game, chances are someone was filming it. Is there any available footage? I want to see what got him 4 weeks. Back page of DT lapping this up, calling it the "latest black eye for Rugby League". Says one of the incidents was a personal dispute involving family members. In what world is that any of the NRL's business?

This can absolutely not be a consideration when coming to deciding what disciplinary penalties to impose.

that is how you turn talented players into the Carney's or Barba's of the comp ... and thinking that they can do what they like because their talent will give them a free pass.

coming down hard on them early (even if it is a tad harsh) for breaching the code of conduct, will be good for them in the long run
 
In my opinion, the club has come down too hard on Haas with a 4 game suspension and 20k fine. the reported 2 games and 10k would have been more then enough. Are we now to see all clubs follow suit? If so, I’m expecting at least 1 suspension (from a club on their player) a month. So much gets keept in house, as should have this\.
I said it last night, other clubs will be circling and posing questions to Haas and his manager as a result of this. Contracts mean nothing, and I doubt Haas would be happy with how this has played out. Most media outlets are reporting this as another off season incident. As far as Im concerened, the bloke wasnt involved directly in an incident and i cant see how this punishment is justifiable.
Is this White putting his hand up to take over Greenberg?

Ok, let's calm down.

It is not the fact that he was in the vicinity, it was that he breached the club's code of conduct through not cooperating with the integrity unit.

In terms of being in the news (if you actually care about this) it is actually for god reasons. Most reports are praising our strong stance and drawing a line in the sand.

Star forward? He hasn't even played 80 minutes of NRL yet and if there is any position we can replace with ease it is the forwards.

This is such a bullshit and dishonest take. Exactly what I meant by the media treating him the same way they treat criminals. He messed up but the club should have released their announcement before allowing the media to create uproar about it and make it look worse than it is.

I agree, however as mentioned before, this was a Broncos ban, not an NRL ban. The NRL could well have been more lenient for all we know, so let's not spend too much time comparing ourselves with the Sharks. Don't forget Flanagan also quit after they found out he'd still been 'coaching' whilst suspended. From all appearance, that place was rotten to the core.

I'll happily cop being seen at the other end of the spectrum to them.

Except that will never happen. A few looks at other forums and it's all about how we managed to keep this quiet for so long and how he should be stood down indefinitely for not talking to them.

It isn't that black and white. Haas has family for life, cultural concerns for life, I imagine religious considerations for life. The Integrity Commission won't be his concern in 20 years but the rest will be. He has to live with his decisions and I'll bet when he's retired he'll want to be right in the warm embrace of his kith and kin. Young passionate loyalty is the only kind he can experience at this time, it should be expected that will be what drives his actions.
