NEWS Walters: Milford can win it for Brisbane

Thank you, I truly appreciate that.

I'm not disputing Milford's tackling technique or whether it needs improvement. I'm arguing he's not solely at fault, and in this case, I doubt any technique would have stopped Leilua, and others were as much or more at fault than he was. It was a collective error, or the sum of individual ones which resulted in those tries.

It's also in my opinion definitely not a reason to send him to reggies, as tackling is not something a half should ever primarily be judged on, no matter what his price is.
Well, I'm afraid I can't agree. Were I coach he'd have to prove to me he will put his body on the line and if he didn't I relegate him for a spell with an eye kept on him until he commits fully. That first of the two tries before halftime was truly terrible and frankly he knows he can't tackle Leilua by grabbing his arm. It was a pathetic effort and we deserve his best effort, in fact anyone we hire in any walk of life is someone from which we rightfully expect their best efforts.

I agree we don't hire halfbacks for their defence but Milford is a 5/8 who can play halfback too but Jeff Robson from a few years ago would absolutely shame Milford and he was smaller and paid pennies by comparison. Anyhoo, at least you understand I have no agenda but an absolute expectation that Milford provides his best efforts at all times and shamefully he continues to fail in that area.

Everyone is correct in saying halves aren't expected to defend well, but if they're not setting up more than they're letting in then it's a problem

Again, I disagree he isn't putting his best effort. He may have a crap tackling technique, it may not be what you think it should be, but it's a different proposition from lack of effort or unwillingness to put his body on the line, which is something I can't accuse him of (or Kodi for that matter).

I don't differentiate halfbacks from 5/8's in this aspect by the way.
Your example of Robson kinda supports my point. He may have been a better defender, but he was also one of the worst halves in the comp attacking wise, which is a half's primary responsibility.

You know you're invited too. Don't make a fuss.

Some people in the Broncos are concerned about Anthony Milford for sure. Obviously everyone will come out and say they back him and that he can do the job but his inconsistency doesn't seem to be improving. He is a very talented football player so why is he not performing? Are they trying to fit a round peg in a square hole? Is he not able to handle the pressure? He's not as bad as what some make out on here but you can't deny he is not at his best and we just do not see him at his best often enough. Time is ticking for him but they might persist with him until the end of his contract if he plays the same or worse because we do not have a viable alternative.

I believe he is intentionally bludging. He hasn't committed to making tackles ever and has always thought if he scored 6 tries and let in 5 then no one should be complaining. It might have been okay in the under 15s but he's still doing it. He's a maestro in attack some of the time and a poor reserve grader in defence all of the time.

Really? Show me 6 legs tackles from the last two years. I'm watching all right and I wrote about his shitty tackling last year, the year before and the year before that. I've watched him make air grabs for so long I pray no one runs his way and that's a big commitment for an atheist!

You're going on and on about legs tackles...FMD, "legs tackles' have been out since the late 90's. Tackling now is all about wrapping up the ball..... (right or wrong).

You could single out any number of Brisbane forwards who have missed the sort of tackles Milford missed against Canberra. Gillett has a record of being brushed aside.....Payne Hass has missed 2 arm grabbing tackles in the past 2 weeks that led to tries. Offa, Glenn, McCullough, Boyd.......the list goes on.

and you want to drop Milford because of a couple missed tackles.......you've lost the plot.

Yes Milford isn’t the best defender but nor was Locky.

Nor was Thurston.......K.Walters......Alf had his share.....Cronk misses plenty....Keary is a speed bump.....and then there's Knik......Maloney.....

It's not unusual to see your halves miss tackles. They draw the most hit-ups from opposition forwards than any other position. Why? Because they are the smallest on the park and the hope is to tire them out so they can't perform with the ball. The amount of tackles they miss is a direct correlation to the amount of tackling they have to do.

Milford is 15th on the list of most missed tackles....there are 10 other halves in the NRL above(worse) than him.

Ben Hunt being one of them.

Milford isn't even in the top 30 of missed tackles leading to tries. Boyd is sitting on no.2.

Again, the call for him to be dropped because of a couple missed tackles is completely ridiculous.

Whatever. Only an idiot doesn't adjust to changing circumstances and only an idiot supports or justifies continuing a course knowing it lead nowhere. **** Milford and his years of ineffectual arm grabbing. I could forgive the occasional lapse but this has been going on since the juniors I feel certain. If I put the video of his arm grabbing misses it would run for hours.

Still hungover from the weekend?

I've seen Milford make plenty of strong defensive efforts over the past 3 years, including some one on one tackles on the line. Yes granted he makes mistakes and misses some tackles, but he is an above average defender for all halves in the league.
Everything is being scrutinised further now because of the start we've had and this is an unnecessary agenda against one of our best players who needs our confidence and backing more than ever.

You must think the rest of our team is near perfect, if you're fixated on dropping Milford...

Huge is just doing a nod to Cult. Noticed it a few days ago.

If you want to make a video Huge, make one showing how many times Milford makes the last ditch fullback effort to stop a try while Boyd watches from beyond (usually with arms out flapping).

No, his choices are what I question. I don't give a **** about the occasional good tackle, I care about the endless stream of arm grabs instead of putting his body on the line. If you don't agree, fine but it's got absolutely bugger all to do with this season as I've written about it for years. He doesn't need our backing, he fucking needs to make an effort.
