2017 Line-up

Do we really need a utility on the bench? Didn't we have a few games at the end of last season without one and go pretty well? Just a question, I'm not really pushing it.

I guess it depends on your "utility". What positions you can cover and what role you are in the team to play.

Just as an example i would say glenn is a utility player for us atm. He can cover center 2rf fr and lock.

Kodi is a utility but he comes on to play a very specific role but he isnt a very good option for injury cover if we need it.

So to answer your question i would say yes a utility player like glenn is very usefull to have on the bench.

Glenn is no impact player he's an average second rower a Hoffman from warriors type. He adds no impact off the bench and can't start so why keep him in the 17. Sua is a machine is my opinion he hits real hard and has great foot work also he can play in the centres. I would like Sua on the bench and to start over origin again.

you seem to want to have a team full of rookies ... you need to have experienced quality players in your side. and that's exactly what Glenn is. if you put out a team of rookies (no matter how talented), you will struggle to make the finals

but you're are right about one thing ... Glenn shouldn't be on the bench, he should be in the 13 jumper (with McGuire staying in the front row)

Doesn't Sua still have another year in the under 20's or am I mistaken? Also I definitely agree Glenn is brilliant off the bench, he really keeps our defensive line strong, can do a bit of ball playing (by a forward standard anyway) and can find the line when he lurks around the edges as we saw at the back end of last year.

Am I the only one concerned that McGuire can only see through one eye, yet some want him as a ball-playing lock? Close one eye permanently and see how you go 'ball-playing'. Even when he had full vision he wasn't a ball-player's arsehole. A great battering ram, yes, though he still drops plenty of easy balls (which I put down to reduced vision). I'm with Porthoz on this, however I only have confidence in Blair in this role (which weakens the props, yes).

Suffered a detached cornea from a stray Dodds boot in a tackle a few years ago. Has some dropped ball in him but in my opinion no more than any front rower.

If anything playing lock will reduce that as he won't be taking as many full-throttle hit ups (in theory)

Sua definitely showed some skill in the 9s and handled the nrl when given the chance last year but who do you drop/where does he fit in the team? It's a pretty good headache to have regardless!!
