2017 Line-up

And this is why moving McGuire to lock makes no sense long term. Say it's 2019 and Blair and Thaiday have retired. We have McGuire, Glenn, Oates, Su'a, Gillett, TPJ and Arrow to fit in to 4 spots. Meanwhile, our front row is relying on ALL of Joe O, Ese'ese, Sims and Fai to step up just to fill the 4 prop spots. We risk losing 2 or 3 quality young backrowers to other clubs while having no selection pressure on our props.

I say Glenn and Arrow will be lucky to stay at the club especially if McGuire excels like Merrin. Though we do have Payne Haas coming through and possibly Lodge and maybe Molo.

Molo? Do you really think he has improved over the years...

If Oates is to move into the back row over the next year or so, he will have to work on his fitness 100 fold. To me he always looks rooted out there on the wing, would be a hell of a lot harder faster moving to the middle/edge. Could he keep up? I'm not so sure...yet.

Agree 100%

I like Glenn, he's a great player. But in the overall scheme of things, I want as many minutes in the back row for Gillett, Su'A & Oates as I can find, so no, I don't want to re-sign him.

oates has got a big engine, dont worry about his fitness or ability to keep up.
i think this is the first off season he hasnt had interruptions or surgery, so i would expect an even bigger year from him.

the offensive load wont change, in fact it may decrease a little ( no running back, chasing kicks, or 20 metre taps etc) his defense work will increase but i have no doubt he will handle it. he actually has great technique so im confident he will be sweet

So you reckon there's a decent chance he walks in 2019? Because I completely agree with Su'A & Gillett being the top options for the back row moving forward.

there is a chance, although he is pretty tight with whitey,!!

the danger will be his manager, i think he is the same one who managed dave taylor, so he will chase the top $ for his client.

i was speaking to a canterbury scout before xmas and they are going to have a red hot crack when the time comes.

We already have gillett on a pretty big deal and if oats wants a hefty upgrade to back row and sua lives up to expectation is there a chance we keep Glenn as our tradesman forward who just does the job week in week out without been a star for a cheap price? Can we afford to have three high class backrowers (assuming oats and sua go well) remembering we will be paying top dollars for milf, Boyd, possibly a halfback and anyone else who steps up and requires a pay rise.

I guess what I'm trying to say is all teams need those midrange forwards who you can rely on and maybe Glenn will be it?

So was Hunt :P

Glenn has served honourably and whist he eventually might be superseded by the young fellows coming through, I think he'll still have a couple more years for us.
