2020 Round 1 Line up

I still struggle with the fact that the richest club in Australia can buy any number of players for any number of position and not think halfback is important enough to have some depth in. I can only assume that in the event of injury/suspension/form dropping on dearden, we have a hidden gem amongst the lot playing fullback/centre/prop?
How can we allow ourselves to be in this position? Surely an average Q cup half on the books is better than a third rate centre (regardless of their potential) in the very likely event we need a back up half?

Why should Milf suffer and be moved when he was tracking along nicely under the guidance of a competent coach but his career could potentially be murdered by incompetent one?

You seriously think out of all the million dollar players in the NRL, Milford isn't one of the weaker ones going around? The pay packet receives tell you he should be in the elite class of players week in week out but the performances tell you a way different story. He was on the decline with Bennett too don't worry about that.

Why should Milf be scapegoated for someone else’s failure to use him effectively? Surely the coach who was signed to improve our team yet has nullified our marquee player, should be the one to move on.

also this ‘best of a bad bunch’ rhetoric is horse shit, we won the majority of our games against the top opposition last year with milf heavily involved.

If you’re anyone but a Roosters fan, it’s well and truly time to look forward to the 2020 season. The free agency period is officially open, and there’s expected to be plenty of movement — while many clubs will move quickly to lock up their talent. Who’s set to take the field for your club next season? We’ve run the rule over all 16 sides; here’s who we expect to line up in every club’s Best 17.

We nullified Milford when we began turning him into a game managing Half, but that was a process that began under Bennett to be completely fair.

A role in which he was consistently our best player and earned rep jerseys.

Considering Hunt, Ash Taylor, Michael Morgan are on similar, and Bird/Norman aren't much less. I'd say he's middle of the pack really. Which isn't bad for a guy with no support

Being our best player in recent years hasn't exactly been that challenging.
The fewest wins we’ve had in a season is 15. You don’t win at 60% if you’re a pack of plodders

Any of those clubs doing well?

I have no idea who simon brunsdon is, but he is but just another example of a league "journalist" that has no fucken clue about the game. Ignoring that he has put macca at 9 (which is bad enough) but listing Boyd at 6? Dude, seriously?

A role in which he was consistently our best player and earned rep jerseys.

There’s no doubt he was used horribly this year, that’s certainly on the coach but you honestly don’t think he went backwards a bit after halfway through ‘16?

sure went backwards a bit there, but was starting to really find his feet in 18. I’m not trying to turn this into a WB v seibs debate, I just think it’s a bit fucked when Milfs been here for 5 years and contributed a lot in that time, yet seibs has been year for a second, and shit the bed, that people would want Milf to be the one who gets moved on.

Fair point. That said, Milf equally started looking good with Dearden at halfback. Again, Milf is regularly given excuses but he is the million dollar man and he is now mid-20s, the excuses shouldn’t be there anymore.

He should be consistent, he isn’t and wasn’t even when Bennett was here. He should be a leader, he isn’t. He should be a total professional, by all reports he isn’t.

He should be the yardstick all other players mark themselves on as he is the club’s marquee player.

He plays well most of the time for a $600k a year player, except he isn’t on $600k is he, he is on almost double that.

If you are happy with how his career is going, that’s great. I also don’t REALLY want him to leave but I also don’t want him being paid a million or more a year to be pretty good some or even most of the time. I want him to be pretty good rarely and great all the time.
