ARL bans Israel Folau from Origin III

If QLD didn't change their mind, the ARL wouldn't have bothered about trying to change a rule but CLEARLY QLD want to play games to suit THEMSELVES so all the ARL are doing is trying to put a stop to this.

Qld just want to pick their own team to suit themself....sounds fair enough to me [icon_shru

Also - how come Qld only have 4 votes and NSW 6 votes on the ARL board?

So they have to power to try & change the rules to suit NSW.

NSW don't exactly get 6 votes. Technically: QLD get 4, NSW get 4, Carr as ARL CEO gets 1 (but IIRC he used to be a part of the NSWRL and has never once voted against what NSW want) and i'm not sure who gets the last vote (possibly Gallop).

The Chairman of the ARL, Colin Love.

Pssst, he's also the chairman of the NSWRL.

FTR I said (along with many others) that they should have always picked him in the first place - it is absolutely ridiculous and the Hunt scenario is a perfect example of how farcical the situation is --> Just announce it after and there is no problem?

The point is Lockyer/Mal said they got it wrong and they've admitted that. The initial signing was disappointing from their point of view and they reacted on that with comments that probably shouldn't have been said at the time. Regardless in his new interview he explains how it all went down --> they all had a talk and yadda yadda. The good thing is they are all on a united front with this now and that should be that... we've given AFL enough talk!!!

fu**ing ARL. what a butthole thing to do. jesus. lighten up.

And therein lies the reason rugby league is a joke.

Gosh this whole thing is embarrassing. Carr has really blundered by making his argument through the media. Now the whole thing is a circus.

thats the thing, he claims that he is worried about the AFL getting free media exposure through the media but he is the one who is putting the AFL in the media not Folau... in fact Folau hasn't said 2 words since to got selected for QLD in game 2

Ross Livermore has stated, they getting legal advice on this.

He is saying you can't change the rules half way through a series.

there is also a conflict of Interest because Geoff Carr is both the NSWRL CEO and the ARL CEO, obviously with him being the boss of the NSWRL he wants what is best for them and that is not having to play against Folau

I leading sports lawyer said that is is a restriction of trade and is illegal in Australia.

Here's the story http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/rugby-l ... -y0lg.html

However this concerns me, as I don't think Carr would have been so public if he wasn't 100% confident they could get it done:

Queensland has four members on the 10-strong ARL board and Corporations Act regulations require a 75 per cent majority for any alterations to the constitution.

However, Mullins said there was the possibility NSW could vote as a bloc and enact a new rule without needing to tinker with the constitution of the ARL.

''If the ARL is a public company and therefore regulated by the Corporations Act, to change the constitution they would need a 75 per cent majority. But the rules may not require a change in the constitution,'' he said. ''If the board has the power to make rules, then the board may have the power to make the rules without a change in the constitution.''

I also have to ask - what happens if the Broncos make the GF this year? Are they going to ban him from playing in that as well? That game will also be played in Western Sydney - same venue as the Origin decider. And the venue seems to rate a big mention from Carr when discussing why Issy playing will give AFL free publicity.

Wasn't Gasnier picked after he said he was going to Union.

So was Wendell.

The difference between those players and Folau is that QLD weren't dominating like they are now and NSWRL are scared so they are going to try to change the rules to suit themselves, not as they claim what is in the best interest of they game.
