Australia v England Second Test Adelaide

As good as the innings from Marsh and Paine were yesterday (and they were both very good), I still can’t help but feel the selectors have blown a massive opportunity here.

This is one of the weakest England sides in years, they lost to WI at home for goodness sake, so they could have picked Cartwright (preferably)/Maxwell and Carey/Pierson and given them five home tests to establish themselves against pretty weak opposition but nope, let’s give two old blokes a go despite the fact neither were playing particularly well and in Maxwell’s case, definitely not good enough in comparison to have been dropped.

Of course, Marsh has gone on to get a fifty and a century and another year ahead of mediocre performances allowed due to having the right surname.

I've always been a big fan of Maxwell in a T20 or one day, but in test matches he gets himself in the forgets he's in a test match and plays a ridiculous shot to get out.

He scored a hundred on the sub-continent and was in as good a form as Marsh before being dropped for Marsh, then makes 278. Not really sure that is a fair assumption for him these days. The past though for sure.

Currently averaging close to 80 in shield this season and batting on 45* as I type this.

I wonder if Jimmy Anderson will still have plenty to say when he comes out to bat tonight

England have lost a wicket every 54 balls. Australia have lost a wicket every 110 balls.

I think Aus should have put Eng back into bat - Aus will probably look at something like 350-400 with a full day and a half to bowl them out.

Bancroft gone cheaply again. He did have a bit of bad luck with that shite call from Warner but the fact is he has few first innings runs and 1 score with little pressure on.
Renshaw would be feeling a little ripped. Hopefully Bancroft can score some runs in Perth but if not where does that leave the selectors.

Australia have put all the pressure on themselves now, what the hell were they thinking?

Big innings for Hanscomb right now. Another failure and they will be looking at his quirky technique which is being exposed by the moving ball. He is always inviting trouble moving in front and staying back like he does.
