Australia vs India Discussion

It's so ridiculous looking back at the stats of some of the guys who either didn't get a test or get very few tests back in those days, we would KILL for any of these guys right now -

Michael Beaven - FC avg 57.32 - 81x 50's & 68x 100's - HS 216
David Hussey - FC avg 52.50 - 65x 50's & 45x 100's - HS 275
Stuart Law - FC avg 50.52 - 128x 50's & 79x 100's - HS 263
Martin Love - FC avg 49.85 - 78x 50's & 45x 100's - HS 300*
Brad Hodge - FC avg 48.81 - 64x 50's & 51x 100's - HS 302*
Chris Rogers - FC avg 49.55 - 122x 50's & 76x 100's - HS 319
Phil Jaques - FC avg 48.29 - 76x 50's - 44x 100's - HS 244

Just to name a few, there's probably 20-30 other guys from that generation who would stroll in to this side.

Still can’t believe Dussey couldn’t get a game, particularly given some of the plodders chosen in front of him.

Why is Stoinis not being mentioned as an all rounder option?

Terrible FC stats, although I'd take him over Marnus or MMarsh if the selectors are 100% going to pick an all rounder at any costs. He could be like a slightly worse Stokes (who is quite overrated) for us.

EDIT: This is also assuming that Maxwell won't be picked under any circumstances.

IMO, Smith and Maybe Cummins (Lyon if it is a spinning track like the SCG)

1. Matt Hayden
2. Justin Langer
3. Ricky Ponting
4. Steve Waugh
5. Steve Smith
6. Michael Clarke
7. Adam Gilchrist
8. Shane Warne
9. Pat Cummins (Nathan Lyon)
10. Jason Gillespie
11. Glenn McGrath

(* didn't include Mark Waugh as he retired in 2002)

MacGill was a better spinner than Lyon, he just obviously got less chances. I also wonder what SOK's record would read like if he was rightfully picked back in the day with his FC bowling average around the 23 mark compared to Lyon's which was around 40. It's taken a long time and a fair few losses for Lyon to become an asset.

Warner would also be threatening JL's spot imo.

i don't think so, for 2 reasons:

1. better team balance with Langer in the side as his opening partner (Hayden) is an agressive batsmen like Warner.
2. JL is more consistent IMO

Handscomb & Labuschagne in for Finch & M.Marsh apparently.

So the guy who needed to work on his technique fixed it by playing T20?! Lol Righto

Why is Stoinis not being mentioned as an all rounder option?

When he was at Victoria he was killing it.

2014/2015- 785 runs

2015/2016 things looked promising, batting at three for Victoria, they won the final and he scored runs-659 av 38. 35 and 72 in the Final.

But problem was they then picked him in the limited overs teams and he went back to WA- no runs.

Look at the bowlers that made their Test debut 00-05.

Muller
Lee
Williams
Bracken
Haurtiz
Watson
Tait
Clark
Cullen

Our current bowlers would have still got a run in the Test side. Lyon would have had lots of chances to bowl with Warne, like I said the other day Warne and May were terrific together.

17 Tests together across Australia, England, Pakistan and South Africa.
Including 21 and 34 in England 93. Destroyed England with 55 wickets.

Team needs (even) more Queensland

1. Burns
2. Harris
3. Khawaja
4. Labuschagne
5. Head
6. Paine
7. Neser
8. Cummins
9. Lyon
10. Starc
11. Hazelwood

1. Harris
2. Khawaja
3. Labushagne
4. S.Marsh
5. Handscomb
6. Head
7. Paine (c)
8. Cummins
9. Starc
10. Lyon
11. Hazlewood

Team for the SCG allegedly

No longer allegedly. So there you have it, an average of 30 in FC will get you into the test side in THE most important batting position. Worst Australian side ever?

Lots of oohs and aahs but apart from Lyon buying a wicket it’s not looking good

We're getting absolutely humiliated by a sub-continent side at home despite allegedly having the best bowling attack in the world.

Our quicks need to go on a head hunting mission to try unsettle these bastards, what happened to the fire of this bowling side

I think we are seeing the impact that Twenty/20 is having on Australian test cricket, all we know now is bowling to contain and batting that has lost touch with lasting more than 20 overs.
