Smith's career average is almost 10 runs per innings better than Kohli. Despite playing 15 less tests Smith has 7 more 50s, 1 less 100.

Kohli has played 27 tests against Bangladesh + SL + West Indies, Smith has played a total of 10 tests v those teams .

Just for interests sake, Smith averages 84.05 v India whereas Kohli averages 50.12 v Aus. H2H Smith usually comes out on top.

There's definitely an argument for Kohli in both shorter formats but in test cricket Smith is in a league of his own.

He did and it was fun to watch but Kohli has been doing it for ten years and is pretty clearly the best ODI bat of all time. Smith is excellent but no one is near Kohli's level in ODI.

So even if you say Smith takes it for tests, Kohli for ODI, T20 is easily in Kohli's court too, so he wins.
