The only fair answer is no subs at all, you play down men if you have too and Tests are ruined. You can't say gully can be replaced but wicketkeeper can't be replaced.

I'd be interested in an opinion rather than a black and white application of the rules.
I've said they are technically within the rules but clearly IMO they are gaming the rules. Its cynical and certainly not what cricket is supposed to be.
Maybe we are past that already but the more situations like this are let go without at least being called out then the more it will happen.
Keeper is a specialist position , a gully fieldsman is not just a gully. I'd be willing to bet if they couldn't replace Pant with a specialist keeper he would have fielded.

If Patto was available I'd be resting Starc but I don't think either of our squad options (Abbott and Neser) are the right pick to spear head our attack. Starc just gives us a different dimension despite his poor form.

Maxwell in to bat at 6 and bowl part-time if we need it. Swepson to debut on his home turf and remind us all why we love leg spin.

If Pucovski came back out and clubbed 97 without a slightest bit of discomfort , I would agree .
The opinion that I was asking for is if you think India were taking the piss or not, not if they were within the rule.
