Australia vs India - Test Series

Just googled it lol get over yourselves. Obviously never been to a footy game

It's close! Haddin with 33 and Paine with 32.4
Thank you! Funnily enough Haddin retired because there was serious pressure on his performances with the bat.

Looked it up and after averaging 60+ in the 13-14 Ashes, he averaged 15.24 in the next 21 innings. 16 of those innings were scores of below 15 and he only scored 1 fifty.

I guess my point is that his average dropped off quite a bit at the end of his career. He comfortably has Paine covered as a batsman.

And the Ashes series Haddin pretty much had to rescue us most innings

Waugh scored a first innings ton in that test.

He might have had a bad day as a captain but he gets a free pass because he actually put us in a position to win that match. Basically everyone else was scoring ducks and he stood up.

Last time I checked, Laxman and Dravid were slightly better batsmen then Stokes, Pant and Ashwin.

That's unlike you to be able to justify anything- why is it you say nothing matters as much as an average- when it suits- no averages don't matter now Haddin was great.

I have no time for Siraj. Just looks like a arrogant prick and his actions reflect it

Can’t wait til they play England. He will lose the plot with the barmy army and Anderson, Broad and Stokes sledging

Haddin was far from great. Most people would agree he was serviceable.

My point is that Paine is in the same category, in fact he's a worse batsman (refer to their FC records if you don't believe me). We need to stop the whole 'equal quickest keeper to 150 dismissals' and '2nd greatest batting average for a keeper' as if he's something special - he's not. We shouldn't even put him in the same sentence as de Kock, let alone Gilchrist.

He can have those records (like Haddin would have) and still be dropped for not being good enough.

I've spent the last few pages going after Lyon and Paine so thought I would throw out my ideal test XI for criticism.

It won't be popular (and I wouldn't do this for an important series because the inexperience) but I just want to see us giving guys with potential a go.

Warner
Renshaw - get him back in and focusing exclusively on test cricket
Labuschagne
Smith (c)
Pucovski - phase him into our middle order to protect him from bouncers with the new ball
Green - in the side as a batsman first but few overs here and there
Carey - deserves first crack at it but I'd have Inglis around the squad too
Cummins
Starc
Hazlewood
Swepson - back to leggies we go
Richardson (12th man) - ready to rotate in for Starc.

Guys on the periphery would be Head, McDermott, Inglis, Neser, Pattinson, Steketee and Lyon.

Doesn't look like there will be any more play today.

I'll focus on the Bulls you're going to drop a guy with 400 Test wickets because you say his average isn't low enough- for a guy can't stay in the Bulls team and has played 39 games in six years and taken 120 wickets at 34?

How is 34 a low enough average when you're dropping Lyon?

I will acknowledge Swepson has been much much better this year but four good games don't cancel out six years.

Renshaw- Dropped this year from the Bulls side, last season averaged 20. season before that 21. Scored his first 100 for Queensland in November since March 2018. One 100 in 19 games.

Again better this season but we are four games in and he still has the post break to come back from.

I try and get Bulls in Tests teams too but you can't convince me that form is demanding to be picked. You at least have to try and hide your bias.

I don't support the Bulls.

I'm picking Swepson because I prefer having leg spin as the slow bowling option. His FC average (34) is currently better than Lyon's was when he was first picked for Australia, so I don't see the issue. He is showing that he is improving whereas we pretty much know Lyon's ceiling and that he's got all of two different deliveries which are variations of the same ball with flight.

As for Renshaw, I just think the Big Bash has been a large factor in his demise. Too many technical changes and he was torn from pillar to post about his mental approach and shot selection. Moving him around the order hasn't helped. I think if he was to focus exclusively on red ball cricket (like Pujara does) he could be the ideal opener that just soaks up pressure and bats time. I saw enough in India to suggest there is a player there and he's still just 24yo.

I would like Renshaw to score runs in shield before he's back in the side and I accept there's no argument that he should be there on form. I just think there's no real option at #5 that is in-form either and I don't see Pucovski as a long term opener, but it appears that is just me.
