Australia vs India - Test Series

How long until Philippe replaces Paine/Carey in all formats? The guy is seriously a class above, very strong Gilchrist vibes from him.

Really hoping he focuses on First Class cricket a bit more over the next 18 months.

I don't support the Bulls.

I'm picking Swepson because I prefer having leg spin as the slow bowling option. His FC average (34) is currently better than Lyon's was when he was first picked for Australia, so I don't see the issue. He is showing that he is improving whereas we pretty much know Lyon's ceiling and that he's got all of two different deliveries which are variations of the same ball with flight.

As for Renshaw, I just think the Big Bash has been a large factor in his demise. Too many technical changes and he was torn from pillar to post about his mental approach and shot selection. Moving him around the order hasn't helped. I think if he was to focus exclusively on red ball cricket (like Pujara does) he could be the ideal opener that just soaks up pressure and bats time. I saw enough in India to suggest there is a player there and he's still just 24yo.

I would like Renshaw to score runs in shield before he's back in the side and I accept there's no argument that he should be there on form. I just think there's no real option at #5 that is in-form either and I don't see Pucovski as a long term opener, but it appears that is just me.

Flight and variation is all any off spinner has unless you can figure out a carrom ball. If you talk to Swepson he will tell you that's exactly what he's learnt this year- that his best bowling is the leg break, he's bowled it nearly exclusively this year and having his best year. He bowled one flipper that got Ellis but that's been it. Nothing but flight, angles and variations.

Six different tricks an over was his weakness not a strength.

And to quote Warnie, allow the natural variation of spin on each ball

Looks like India are playing for the draw and will probably get it with the rain around and only Cummins deciding to show up this series with the ball

He might not... he is very t20 orientated and that’s where the money is... lots of players are starting to go after the money in t20 rather than the prestige of test

India batting for time knowing this is headed for a draw.

Time to get the game moving and get them scoring runs again. Nice idea to bring Lyon back on.

Edit: just seen the footage of Starc bowling with his eyes closed. No wonder he's so inconsistent.

Didn't look even remotely likely hey. Lapse in concentration from Rahane.

With all the criticism levelled at Wade and co for throwing their wickets away I think much the same can be said about India this series. There's only been a couple of batsmen that have put a serious price on their wickets on both sides.

Maybe the pitch is so boring they are just losing concentration 😂
I was thinking maybe they got intimidated by the bowler threatening at the other end and decided they could only really attack Starc.

Pujara as well the only value he has is saving 200 balls he doesn’t score runs and usually gets out for a fairly average score

He just wears our quicks down and forces Lyon and Green to bowl. Its quite effective.

I'm a big fan of Green but I don't think he poses any real threat at this point. It annoys me that Foxsports are already going in on him for not having taken a wicket. Kid is a batsman first, bowler second - the comparisons to Marsh are totally unwarranted because unlike Marsh, he's actually good with the bat.

Lyon only really looks like taking a wicket when they go after him like Rohit did. The plan is simply to toss it up and hope the batsman plays a rash shot.

Sundar is proof that if you've got the ability it is never too early to be thrown into test cricket.

Only 12 FC games and 30 wickets before this test. At 21yo the Indian selectors may have uncovered the heir to Ashwin's throne.

We’re not winning this series.. Aside from a ‘one in 100 year rain event’ in Adelaide, India has shown time and time again during this series that there’s nothing we have that they can’t counter

Just wait until teams start planning for him. He could end up good but this Australian attack has become a bit toothless as this series has worn on.

Hit by the ball... better waste some time
🙄🙄🙄
