Australia seem too reluctant to blood anyone under 25. For fast bowlers that's hard, because realistically most are only going to be at the peak of their powers until 30 at most.

Too much of a dad's army feel to the Aussie team. I mean Michael Clarke, Mitchell Johnson, Shane Watson and Cameron White are the only ones who played in the first Test under 30. And all of them are 25+.

At least Siddle is 23.

But the advantage of debuting players late is that they're usually well rounded players by the time they make into the team. Hussey and Clark are good examples. Cricket players are generally older anyway, most don't retire until their mid-30s or even later.

And I wonder if Kumble was pushed?

A bit sad, one of the few Indians with class (personality as well as talent) is gone.

And agree, there are benefits to later debuts. But as I said, fast bowlers are a bit of an exception. They're the only cricketers who really do suffer wear and tear on their bodies and by starting late they get less chance to establish themselves.

I love it when a young fresh player gets picked IMO it is great to have youth in the side just for balance and a better outlook to the future. Most players are alot better for debuting at an older ages but you have to look at players like Ooh aah, Ponting, Waught twins, Warney that all debuted relatively young. Generally the team is buitl around the special guys who debut when they are 21/ 23.

Only thing missing from that pitch is cars. Deadset, how flat is it?

It looks a hard enough deck to get the ball up around the chest/chin area without too much effort and that may be the way to bowl against he subbies, but i'm not sure we've got the attack to do it consistently without taking some punishment.

Hopefully we can restrict these jokers to something under 350/400.
